Just a word check out the mig coarse's I did won it was manly done on heaver metal than body metal even though the teacher's were good with me at the end of course they taught me a little of how to weld body metal I did meet a bloke who was trying to becme a tafe teacher and he was a great help Iwas his first real student are real good mates he was doing up a vw type 3 convertable look's good to

Welding course would be good - but yeah like smooth said don't wanna do more bad than good.

caveat emptor is the lesson guys - I learned the hard way, but still want to save the poor old girl - she's had a rough life!

But it is fixable, like the others have said do some TAFE courses. Learn to weld first then do a panel beating course. The bonus being you can take panels in to work on and practice.

Or take up Smooth Customs offer. All is not lost, just more work than first thought.....

funny thing is I sold an ek standard sedan that was in ALOT better condition than that a few years ago! All original! Just some surface rust! You restorers would have killed for her - original / unmarked interior and boot mat, all original running gear etc etc. If i had of put in the kind of cash i'm gonna end up spending on this bucket of rust I would have ended up with a show car

The Ek I'm doing at the moment is my first attempt at this.

I'd never welded before I started, but have a mate to show me the ropes.

Like the guys said practice, practice, practice.

I started in inconspicuous places and had to go back and fix a few.

Seems to be all good now.

It's a great feeling knowing you have done ALL the work yourself

Sorry to hear that the car isnt up to grade for you.
Thats the terrible thing about e-bay, too far away, not being able to inspect onsite!!

I went and had a look at it, (and real glad I did ) and I spose because I'm an ex Boilermaker / welder, I wasnt too worried about the steel working, but yeah, what was the previous owner thinking,,,,,,,,,,,

And brushed on,,,,,,,,yeeee uckkkk!!!!

Did the current owner, give you any accessories, ie, spare sills etc ?? I knew he had some, even offered them to me if I bought it.
Too much work for me, I just wanted a car, to turn the key and off we go.

The ex owner does (or did) use this forum, I'd like to here what he has to say about the poor condition of this rat piece of shit, and like bus1211 said where are the spare sills? (if you didn't get them).

in his defence (wow did I just write that!) he did give me 2 new replacement outer sills, as well as 3 rust free doors and a tailgate, also a visor and new rear bumper and assorted chrome so it wasn't a dead loss, just was a bit bummed that when I asked if there was structural rust (i.e in the subframe) he said no! Which clearly is not true, possible that he never had it on a lift but not so sure thats the case. Anyway, there is some good parts there and with some subframe repair it will come back to life so its not a dead loss. Just a lot more work than I first anticipated. Like i said - still love the car though and am pretty determined to get her rehabilitated!

some people just don't understand the "rat " thing without trying to sound to rude if it's a style you don't really understand or like yor better off not commenting it only makes the new owner feel worse than he should

There's the rat look and there's a rusted out car, I would like to think they are two different things , Trev .
