diff to chassis rail distance

Post by matches »

does anyone know the original top of diff to chassis rail measurement for a special sedan?
or the original rear suspension travel distance (to chassis rail, not to bump rubber)?
so i can work out what size lowering blocks i can go (and get passed by my engineer), (my rear suspension is out at the moment so i can't measure mine and i want to order the blocks at the same time as the bushes and slipper pads).
cheers, luke.

From memory bump rubber to diff rebound point is 67 mm but will check tomorrow in my records.

If you want diff rebound point to chassis rails just just add bump rubber length to 67 mm and thats the distance for that one.

Think the bump rubber length is 75 mm but again, will check tomorrow for certain.

The engineer will be looking at the original bump rubber to diff rebound point clearance distance rather than the distance to chassis rail.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

thanks fbmad, according to the adr's the measurement is to solid rail measurement excluding any rubber bump stop.http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/ ... eb2006.pdf (page 20, "the suspension bump and rebound positions are measured with any deformable or rebound stops removed" :D
but i will be double checking this with my engineer before buying blocks.

Yep, OK they are getting around it by stopping people using shortened bump stops by using the measurements without the bump stop fitted.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

OK,

From GMH FB shop manual,

MINIMUM rear standard height for FB/215 and FB/225 from end of bump rubber to rebound point on diff is 3 19/32 inch ( approx 91 mm ) at kerb weight.

MINIMUM rear standard height for FB/219,229,2104 and 2106 is 4 19/32 inch ( approx 117 mm ) at kerb weight.

Measured a non perished/deformed standard rear bumpstop on one of my cars yesterday and it was approx 65 mm ( 2 9/16th inch )

So, if you want the MINIMUM distance from chassis rail to bump rebound point on diff it will be,

Sedan 91 mm plus 65 mm = 156 mm ( 6 3/16th inch )

Wagon,Van,Ute 117 mm plus 65 mm = 182 mm ( 7 3/16th inch )

I found a link via the DOTARS site a few years back that had all the minimum accepted specs for various models with regard to suspension and wheel track although I can't find the link now, I did jot down a bit of it that concerned FB and EK.

MINIMUM bump stop clearance is 67 mm for rear ( sedan I'd assume )

MINIMUM bump stop clearance is 25 mm for front ( again, sedan I'd assume )

MAXIMUM allowable wheel track is 1410 mm front and rear.

Hope this dribble helps,
I can't think what to write here so this will do.
