Condensor
Condensor
Just a quick question, can I use a condensor from a red motor on my grey motor distributor
Just setting up a spare parts kit for my car for when I travel and Repco said they have no listing for a grey condensor but the sales guy said that you can use a red motor one without any problem. Thats ok for him to say but I'll be the one stranded on the highway over the long weekend if he's wrong.
Hi Newman,
I can't say that I've done this, but I would trust Terry on the matter.
I cannot lay my hands on the micro-farad listing for both condensors (capacitors) .... I expect they would be the same.....
Oh, darn it - I just had to chase this up....... for my own info...
Red motor (179/149) .18 ~ .23 micro-farads
Grey motor (FB/EK) .18 ~ .23 microf-farads....
ie - the same....
from memory, if the condensor is not large enough or is losing its capacity - your points will burn as the "break" across the contacts slows....
This fault usually first presents itself at start up and at slow speeds. (from GMH EK workshop manual).
