FB/EK Wagon- Worthy of a project.

Hi everyone.
I'll try and keep this short, but being my first post I should introduce myself.
Name's Ben, and I'm from Bendigo in central Victoria- No doubt quite a few of you visited here last year during the cold months as I stumbled upon a large group of FB/EKs parked up at the lake! Ever since then I've been very keen on getting a Station Sedan to play around with, and it is only now that I've got the space to have a crack at doing it. And I thought what better place to look than the gathering of people who inspired me in the first place!

Ultimately, I'd love an EK Hydramatic Special but I don't expect a lot of them to be around, especially in a shabby condition. So I'll consider anything that's a wagon. If the engine's on it's way out or stuffed I'm not fussed too much because a red motor would be assigned to the engine bay anyway (not that there's anything wrong with a grey, I'm just into reds more).

Bodywise, I guess beggers can't be choosers... But the less rust the better.

Price- I'm not overly savvy in what a restorable rig could be worth, so I guess the best price is somewhere between what the seller thinks it's worth and what the buyer's willing to pay. I'm looking at between the $800-$900 bracket, but if there isn't a good enough base to start with for that sort of money I'm happy to loosen the purse strings when I've saved a bit more

Any leads, advice or assistance is very welcome. I've been cruising this site for some time now and everyone seems very happy and helpful.

G'day Ben,

If you stumbled across a heap of FB/EK's in Bendigo at the lake on a freezing cold foggy morning on the June '09 long weekend then it would have been our '09 FB/EK Nationals gathering for the Saturday cruise to Castlemaine Rod Shop Museum.We eventually made it after Trev got us lost .

Sorry to say this Ben but it's getting harder and harder to find rebuildable FB/EK's in the price range you are hoping for BUT, it is still possible occasionally so don't give up straight away.Would be best to try and get a bit more $$$ together however to be in the ball park.

In the meantime while you are waiting for one to come up, have a look around the forum and you'll find heaps of build info that forum members have put up and by all means contribute yourself as well.

Anything FB/EK preferred but there are sections for other topics as well, and it doesn't matter what questions or how basic the question is just ask.

I thought I was a tad optimistic with my price range- I was going off what folks were paying for shabby sedans on eBay recently.

So the next thing I should say is: what have you got, and how much?

Welcome to the forum Ben. Good to see you have been bitten by "the bug"!!

As Terry said it is getting harder to find the old girls BUT they are still out there so keep looking and keep an eye on the "Cars for sale" section of the forum.....here: http://www.fbekholden.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=1

Another idea is to register an "alert" with cars.com, drive.com, etc..... so when the car you are looking for is listed it notifies you by email.

Thanks, Gaz. Your build thread was the very first one I went through, and the thought end effort you have put into your EK is nothing short of amazing!

Is it worth putting an alert out on those sites for a vehicle that I'm expecting to find in a graveyard or a paddock? I'm probably going to end up with a car that has no driveline, let alone registration and a RWC.

By the way, I'm willing to look interstate (NSW, SA, ACT) if someone presents me with the right candidate.

It would be worth putting a wanted ad in the Trading Post or something similar..... also with the others (drive.com etc..) you can set your limit for eg: $700, just a thought and might save you missing a bargain, costs nothing to register an alert. Good luck and hope you find what you need sooner rather than later .
