I've been told I can not modify my existing chassis in my ek? I want to add a 4link in to accomidate some larger wheels...
The car is not yet registed and will need to be engineered.
I have email a few, just waiting on responses... I'm slightly impatient :p
Chassis modification in vic????
I dont know exact rules in Victoria sorry.
If they are the same as Sydneys .. no modifications allowed to the holden original chassis. Wont pass engineering. I believe its possible if you build a new full chassis, need to chat to your engineer.
Hence the biggest wheels you can fit with an original chassis are 10inch wide rubber with mini tubs and slight guard pumping.
The rear wheels here are 8.5inch and 10 inch rubber using leaf spring and 2 link rear end.

I think a while back there was some talk along the same/similar subject on here or another forum I frequent and it seems that in a lot of states they won't allow any chopping/modifying of original chassis rails to accomodate wheel/diff mods.
If they won't allow original chassis to be chopped/modded then they may be more amenable to a fabricated chassis as Mephious has alredy mentioned.
Best to talk to an engineer but just don't take the word of one engineer if he says no to existing chassis mods as I've found that engineers opinions can vary quite a bit when asked the same question.
Shop around.

I can't think what to write here so this will do.
yes i found this when considering fitting a whole rolling floor from a torana into the ute i have one engineer i have used before and found quite accomodating wanted nothing to do with it yet another had no problems with the ideaFB MAD wrote: Best to talk to an engineer but just don't take the word of one engineer if he says no to existing chassis mods as I've found that engineers opinions can vary quite a bit when asked the same question.

John ( forum username oldnek ) has from memory?? a commodoor floor pan including front struts in his EK ( not sure what model commondoor it was ?? ) ?? so not sure how his mods went but the car is regoed. Remember talking to him at '08 Yamba Nats about it and having a squizz underneath at it but haven't got any pics nor know how extensive his mods were but would imagine it was a fair amount of work involved??.Looked like he'd done a bloody good job on it though!!
His EK is regoed in NSW.
I know this isn't answering the question about chassis mods in Victoria but I'm just trying to give an example of what can/has been done given the right engineer, the person doing the modifying and how its done and interpretation of the state modification rules pertaining to chassis mods.
Find an engineer who is willing to listen to your proposed mods and put him on your 2010 christmas card list.

Here are some pics of Johns car I just found from Johns first post when he joined the forum.

Might be of some help??
Think I underestimated my comment above when I said "would imagine it was a fair amount of work involved" after seeing the build photos again

In vic if you go full chassis in an early holden it will most likey (depending on the engineer) be classified as an ICV.... Not good as you have to meet current ADR's. Had a mate do this a few years and scrapped it due to engineering problems. But he did get approved mini tubs and small block chev.
But you may find an engineer happy to approve it, just might take some hunting.
