Twin carb question (Another thread)

Post by newman »

Not wanting to sidetrack the "Trouble with the twins" thread I thought I'd start this one, I've got two 1"1/32 carbs cleaned up and ready for new gasket kits sitting on a speco manifold.Just sorted out the linkages, return springs etc. and am up to finding suitable main jets. My motor is mild, bit of headwork,30/70 cam and extractors so I was thinking 44 main jets? :?
I did notice that the posting from Muddy concerning his twins he said that he got the 44's new, I tried the local Repco (the only parts outlet in town) they said that they're not available anywhere. Anyone got any they might sell or know of a supplier, failing that I was going to resort to filling and redrilling a couple of spare 55's I got out of some old red motor carbs.
Has any one done this lately? I was thinking maybe solder to fill them or silver solder? The only thing with silver solder is I was concerned the extra heat may be an issue.
When it comes to drilling them out I have access to a small lathe so I can make sure the hole will be centred, anything else I should watch out for?

I would prefer the new jets but if not looks like its the do it yourself option, so after the rejetting, new gaskets and setting the linkages is that all I need to do before turning the key to fine tune them?? 8)

P.S. Merry Xmas all you guys, if you are going away over the break take it easy and travel safe.
