Here's one for the heads of state.

I have had the question asked of me,
will my car fit in this category if it has this or that,
refering to the 'Sports' category.

So I think the question has to be asked, and the rules made clear to all.

What is allowed, and what isn't?

'Original'

Are radial tyres allowed?
6" rims?
Interior fabrics?
etc

'Sports'

Must have a grey motor, but
column shifted trimatic in place of hydro?
Full synchro 3spd in place of crunch box?
If a 60's survivour turns up with a riley 4spd, would it be sports or modified?
Aussie 4spd, celica 5spd behiend greys?

'Modifieds'

Everything else that does not fit into the above catagory's I assume?

I hope this is not a can of worms
Maybe just the heads of state, VIC, NSW & QLD should sort this out privately and just get back with an answer.

I would think (only my opinion).

Original, only change from factory would be tyres and seatbelts.

Sports, period speed equipment (multi carbs, headers, wide 13's), no updated trans (trimatic/ full syncro box).

Modified, everything else.

Hi Jeff,

A fair question and considering that there may be people coming to the Nats that havn't been before.

This is straight from the Entrants letter and the same categories the NSW club used in Forbes. It's much in line with what Tim said. It's not a 'perfect' system but its the only system we have at the moment...

The vehicle categories that will be used for the Narrandera Nats Show n Shine are as follows:

ORIGINAL: Vehicles meeting manufacturers original specifications with Genuine Nasco or Period accessories are acceptable such as radial tyres, carpets, and modern sound systems are permitted.

SPORTS: Vehicles must retain grey motor and drive line but may have period sports modifications including wider wheels, mags, lowered, twin carbs, extractor exhaust system and other period bolt on accessories etc.

MODIFIED: Vehicles including modifications excess of the Original or Sports Categories.

re: Daves question...is tricky because the car has a foot in both the sports and modified category. The HR discs could be classed as 'period'. The trimatic by definition would push it over to the modified category.

As Tim said and what I think most people realise is that the Nats is more about the social get together...

and I dont think we really have any trophey hunters among us.

But I was asked the question, and I couldn't answer it with a definitave answer.
So I thought I would ask the ones in the know.

I didn't want to start a 'where should we hold the nats' type thread as you can see.

My aim was to help make it clear for everyone,
and easier for the orginisers at the event.

If Ive been asked the question, things might not be clear to all.

maybe to play it safe ill just park with 2 wheels either side of that sports and modified line

I like your style Dave...you might end up with double the trophies...

I will double check with the NSW Nationals Committee about trimatics and get back to you.

When were trimatics first introduced into the Holden range...?

more just to get the car in the right catagory at Bendigo i was in origional class
but i had it changed because i was running a injected 202

they all sound pretty fair but the gearbox one seems a bit odd sunnytims version sorta gives the impression that an aussie 4 speed or 3 speed syncro would be ok as long as it's behind a gray therefore a trimatic behind a grey should be ok as they are the same era (trimatic/ aussie 4 or 3 speed syncro) like thommo said some type of oddball riley jag etc adapted to a gray is different that's something that would have been done early '60's aussie's etc wouldn't have been done till early to mid '70's

SEPARATELY is there a benefit to the hosting club or clubs in general if you don't enter ? as if i go i prolly won't enter

I'm having trouble phrasing my response...I think what you are saying is you will be at Narrandera but wont you wont be a Nationals Entrant?

First up I'd encourage you to enter. I'm sure there are a few blokes on here that would love to shout you a beer on the Saturday and Sunday night dinners. Second to the actual show n shine and cruise the two dinners is where the most fun happens. Being an Entrant gets you into the dinners and the other activities - show n shine and cruise.

There is no benefit to the host club or clubs in general if you do or don't enter...if that makes sense? The NSW Club aims to break even at the Nats.

Actually I lie...there is a benefit if you enter the Narrandera Nats...we get 1 more FB EK closer to hitting 100 cars (its never been done before) and you will get a Nats t-shirt to wear over that blue singlet of yours...

just wasn't sure about entering, if it was a benefit to the club/clubs then i would enter
just after some recent events i'm not sure i want to be around some people
as to people buying me beers i think there are more people that would want to kick me in the nuts

Hey Stewart, my understanding when I joined the club (years ago now) was that a HR front end disqualified a car from the Sports category. Strictly only "bolt on" modifications were permissible with Sports (no body mods); and putting the FB/EK outrigger onto the HR front end is not a bolt on mod. I thought this rule still held, which is why I went the EJ drum brake route on Edna (as it all bolts in no modifications) rather than the HR disc. If I knew a HR disc front end was kosher, I would have done that instead

Not looking to dip a fly in ointment, but it would be good to have some clarification on that.

P.S. Jeff, I never knew Riley gearboxes were used in '60s modifications...my father is into Rileys...maybe I need to pinch a gearbox or two from him...
