Hi guys,
Went to change the spark plugs today and they were stuck solid into the block. Any suggestions about how to free them? Tried warming the engine up, that didn't seem to help.
Cheers,
James
EDIT: It's a 179 red if that changes anything
Freeing stuck sparkplugs
In addition ................................
Assuming that you have managed to "crack" the plug but can't undo all the way then follow this process..........................
Sometimes if incorrect thread length spark plugs are fitted to an engine, a few of the first threads protrude into the combustion chamber and over time get coated with the carbon by-products of the combustion process.
Then when the undoing process starts, the carbon coated threads eventully sieze up in the threaded area in the head making the spark plug VERY hard to undo.
Be carefull as sometimes the spark plug can break off leaving the seized threaded part of the plug in the head......................... then you are fcuked!!
Try undoing to the point where it starts to bind and then screwing the plug back in again and then undoing again.Repeat this process.

I can't think what to write here so this will do.

no luck with the WD40
nope, not even managed to crack them - although I did manage to brake the spark plug ratchet trying to get one loose
I think they can stay where they are for now - there may be a major engine overhaul in the works anyway. Not sure the plugs are a problem, I was just trying to do all the easy things to try and get the engine to run smoother, and this definitely isn't turning out to be an easy thing! Cheers for the suggestions.
