In need of advice...just had my subframe powdercoated and a new battery box made up(pix in My EK section) any ideas how to put the new battery tray which is powder coated onto the subframe which is power coated.I thought of drill holes in the tray and filling with weld but i would have to grind the coating of the subframe and am worried about rust when you grind the coating off.Someone said bolt it to the frame but i think yuk....Any ideas guys?????
Stand and listen to knowledge turn your back on stupidity.......
Hi t950cat,
I was thinking along the same lines.... stainless - the fact that you have powdercoated the mating surfaces would probably prevent the issue of electrolosis between steel and stainless.... I would, however - suggest some sealing out of the exposed drilled holes......
You can grind the markings from the heads of stainless bolts, and rub them back on a flat stone - finally buff them up and you'll probably be pretty happy with the result....
I'd be very hesitant to suggest welding - it can go wrong - and the battery box area is a well known "high risk" rust area......

Hi Tony,
there is a product called "Panel Bond", BMW use this to put their cars together instead of welding
. We have used it in the marine industry to bond metals together and it stick like "cat shit to a blanket"..... actually is stick better! Would be worth considering but it is not cheap.
I would not weld it, bolting would be the best option if you use s/s countersunk metal threads and polish dome nuts.... the metal threads would obviously need to be cut to length.
Hope it helps
