Ever since I put the 185/80 tyres on the EK I'd noticed a rubbing noise on full lock. I went underneath to investigate yesterday and found that the flexible brake hose actually rubs on the tyre.
Considering the thing has single circuit brakes and no seatbelts , the last thing I want is for the hose to split.
Short of getting new re routed hoses, is there anything I can wrap around the hose to stop the tyre from wearing it away.
The current hoses are not that long, so I can't really move them around much to stop the rubbing
Hi Theo, I saw that thread. Quite helpful, though the only problem with mine is that they are not very long, so you don't really have much hose to play with (as in moving it out of the way).
I'll take a closer look and see if I can do anything like that.
The brake hoses look factory. I'm a bit surprised they positioned them like that. A 185 tyre isnt exactly fat, so it shouldn't be rubbing

yes - you've hit the nail on the head - you'll have to get right onto this without delay - single line systems are totally dependent on the whole system being intact.....
For the cost of two replacement hoses, and a bit of brake fluid/time etc...... nothing can come so cheaply compared to losing your hydraulic system at a crucial time - and it WILL be crucial - the extra "ooomph" put into the brake pedal will occur when you REALLY need to stop - that's when it will let go......
I don't know which front end you have fitted - but there have been some threads posted way back where someone was having trouble getting brake hoses to "stretch" the gap to calipers..... on that occasion, original extension piping from the caliper to the steering arm was missing and the hoses were "pulled" to make up for it.....
My own suggestion is to have (or find) suitable length brake hoses - probably slightly longer than required - and use the hose clamp/spring system as fitted to HD/HR disc braked vehicles which "hold" up any slack - well away from a rotating tyre......
I just took a peek in the "bible) and came up with a thought (my one for the day - can't overload the system)....
When you stated that these were fitted at Pagewood, I considered whether at some time they had been replaced and an incorrect hose fitted....
I don't have access to lengths, but the bible states front brake hoses fitted to models 48 - FC were numbered 7410776 and FB/EK 7412729 - obviously some difference.....
I'm hoping someone on this forum (Dr. Terry.....) may be able to suggest that the earlier models used a shorter hose.....?
A simple telephone call to Rares would probably rule this theory out.....
