hmmm well favazzo's are engine reconditioners.
I was going to do my grey but the expense was too much and putting in a red was about half the price of a recond grey.

However, I am unsure on labour because I took the engine out, stripped it down myself. Just took the block and crank over there.
It was honed out and polished, over all costing about $325

new timing gears are between $300 and $400
gasket set is about $470 I think

then there is labour added into it.
Might be easier to go down a path of a red motor, or just get a general service on the car.

Let me know if you have any more questions, il be on the cruise on sunday - there will also be a lot more people with a wider knowledge than I have.

Cheers
Jay

You were going to be ripped off J  , Timing gear you can get (steel) $160 http://shop.ebay.com.au/merchant/austcats , Gasket kit $100.

betty60, I did the pulling out and assembly work on mine and it cost about $3000, if you get them to do all that there wil obviously be labour added.
If your motor is running fine just do a cosmetic clean up and paint, save your self a bit of coin  , Trev 8) .

Hi Gordon,
I have a 1960 FB Special Sedan Cathay Grey and white,138 grey motor 3 speed manual. The paint is not orginal,it was blasted and painted in 1997,But the interior is the orginal red and white trim.I changed the stock rims and fitted ROH deep dish chromies with FB hub caps. She is in fair condition for a everyday driver{no rust].
I'll post photo"s asap.

My grey cost me 6 grand but that was with all of the go fast gear in it. I would say you would be looking at the 3 grand mark for a stock rebuild if you do the install.

The guy that built mine has retired but there is a company in nedlands called Hine Motors that have done some old school MG rebuilds for a mate of mine, the work was top notch but it wasn't cheap.

cheers

I made all of the mods you mentioned, my motor was fully balanced and the head was ported extensively, both the manifolds are port matched, steel timing gear big valves, higher comp etc etc.

It sounds great but don't expect a race car.....hahahaha

Sounds like the same mods I had done also, only not too much on the porting of the head just took out the lumps and bumps and opened it up a bit, but I only paid $3000 :!: , half the price of yours Hysteria :? , guess I got lucky :D , Trev 8) .
