fuel tank repairs ?

Post by D61wagon »

After looking for a wagon tank for a long time I finally picked up a ute tank with the filler neck removed, Ineed someone to reweld it into position to match the old wagon tank or my plan B was to cut the old filler neck and join it to the new tank using rubber hose any ideas on which one of these is the way to go would be appreciated :) thanks Deryck.

I'll be in the same boat with the tank I got for the FB wagon. I was just going to use a rubber section to join it all up.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

earth

Post by Dee »

I dunno but I think it might be the right think to worry about an earth if ya is gunna put rubber hose there somewhere..

prolly not, but I just got this think about metal filler pipe doin somehtin to stop statik spark.. might be worth thinkin about a wire from the body to the filler pipe - I spose the filler pipe in the back of the body will be insolated if ya bung a rubber pipe between the tank and the filler..

prolly rong - but somethin to think on..

As RB said the rubber hose joint wouldn't be a problem and to quote Trev, make sure it's to right grade of rubber (fuel resistant) and use good quality clamps. As far as static goes .... it doesn't matter if it is earthed to the cars body or not, the thing that stops static it earthing the car to the ground ie: using the earthing clamps that you see at so service stations, mainly for large capacity tanks (trucks etc). The little strap you may have seen hanging down at the back of some cars is the earth grounding bond which discharges the static from the car when stationary, the strap looks like it's just rubber but it has copper wires in it.

Only other way would be to fit a set of worn out steel belted radials with the steel belts are hanging out like Phyllis Dillers hair and hopefully the wires are touching the rim and the ground.

I would get the hose from Repco or some "Car" parts shop to make sure she's right.

The hose you are after is available from "Enzed" .

I recently purchased a short length for the same purpose - not cheap but it is the correct stuff for fuels.

regards. :D
