Boot Seal

Post by Cal »

I've bought a new boot rubber and have a bit of a question........

Coz the old one was so rooted, I don't know which way the new one is meant to go in.

Some people I asked said the curved lip part that sticks up should sit inwards, towards the boot.

Others say it should sit outwards, towards the car body...

Which one is right? :?

I'll try it your way..............Hope it works

Surprised there was very little rust in the gutter........about 3 small, 3-4 mm holes

Mmm :? My reply dissapeared..

I did it the same way Rat did. Try stretching it as you put it in, not too much though just a bit of tension.

Well I finally got it in...................after many attempts to get it right

I had to literally sit on the boot to get it shut.

I haven't glued it in yet, I'll let it settle overnight then pull it out and glue it tomorrow. I bought some glue from the rubber place anyway

Last thing I wanted to do was glue it in then realise I f*&^@# it up

I'm presuming this is the right way..........

Makes total sense installing the seal that way, it allows water to run from the inner side of the sealing edge and down the boot line. and if water was forced in under pressure you think that the seal lip would seal better on the underside of the boot lid. But!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After installing the seal both ways, I ended up fitting it this way.

like i said i wasn't sure, but what you say makes sense
i was going with as the boot closes up at therear window area it folds the rubber in to make a seal

come on you restorers surely you know or is it some sort of secret

jacko look on yor 9000 mile car surly the boot rubber has never been changed in it
