thermo fans

hey, just wondering if anybody has had any experiance with putting thermo fans on a 186 in my hg. how hard is it and wot do i need.

any help is much appreaciated

My ek ute has a hg radiator that has a 14 inch thermo fan attached to the front side of it and has no problems with over heating (no engine fan)

Piece of piss made some brackets out of 40x3mm ally screwed them together.Used the bolts that bolt the radiator to the support and then hooked the wiring up through a relay

I did the same on my ek but I didnt use brackets I just fitted the bolts gently through the finns and used flat washers and nuts on the engine side this puts the fans blades in a just right position. Simon

save yorself alot of dramas and money and just leave yor engine fan on does just as good a job and the power gains are minimal, even heard that the extra load on the alternator outweighs the power gains

I agree with Ratbox.

I had a warmish 308 that had a 3 core radiator and 2 Davies Craig thermo's (came with the car). Used to overheat like a pig on hot days or when it copped a thrash.

Pissed off the thermo's, put the standard fan back on, and..........

no overheating.

i wanna put a gilmer drive on ny 186 and i dont think that it would fit otherwise. theres not enough room between the fan and radiator

there should still be plenty of room but an engine fan would look silly with it

Got to agree with Cal and RB. I'm running standard fan on a 161 with two craig davies thermos in front of the air-con condenser. Noticed the other day only one thermo was running, gave it a flick with the finger and of she went

If you have or want to use an aftermarket thermo fan, the instructions are pretty good as far as hooking them up. You can just feed the mounting bolts through the fins as previously stated.
Have only ever relied on the stock engine fan on my rally cars, as to win first you must finish
