Hi guys
picked up a moded head the other week and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a couple of things
it has GMH cast into it towards the front between the intake and rockercover where as the others I have dont so I am asuming this is an early 132 head?
beteen the 3 I have all are different any ideas how many different heads were cast and any draw backs/benifits if any between the years
the new head has 4 brass plugs that go into the cooling passages fitted between the intake/exhaust face and roker cover that dont appear to be standard (firing order shows signs of being ground down) any ideas what for my only thoughts are for fitting a speedway style cooling manifold mod (if that makes sense) as it has had a fair bit of work done
I've got a similar modded head here at home Craig.
Yours has got double valve springs and would most likely have standard size red motor valves which is about the biggest that can be fitted to the grey combustion chamber without chamber relief. The standard red motor valves are bigger than standard grey ones.
Your head also appears to be shaved considerably to increase compression and to also have enlarged ports and probably port matched to a performance manifold of some sort.
I know Yella Terra did grey heads in the '60's and early '70's so its probably one of them or one done to a similar spec by someone.
The round GMH cast into your head to me indicates an early head.I've got an FX motor here at home on a stand with the same GMH cast into it both on the block and head and I'm pretty sure my modded head has the same GMH cast into it as well. The modded head is from a hot FC motor I have here but may not have been originally off the FC motor.
I'm sure that head will breath better than a standard grey head once cleaned up and fitted to a suitably modded motor.
