HQ 253 V8 into a 61 EK

Post by jazzar02 »

We have got for free a 253 V8 out of Hq statesmen. It has been rebuilt with less then 150,00km on it. Now the question is will this fit into a 1961 EK. it has all stock gear. Also what will be a good manual or auto box that will fit the engine and car?

Ok so you will need a larger trans tunnel for pretty much all trans you may fit and you will need a chassis kit or some kind of strengthening and rack & pinion conversion along with disc brake conversion/upgrade.

put it this way, if you can do alot of the work yourself then it will cost alot less than if you get someone to do it all for you....

Sammy.

Hi SPL camry (you need to change that name),
If you can weld with a MIG then the cost will be low, if you need to pay someone to do it for you then the cost will be    most fabrication places charge a min' of $90/hr (that is not just the welding, it's all the work from start to finish, fabrication wise). If you do it yourself see you engineer first (regardless of how good you are at welding) and get the project going on the right track from day one :D .

The 253 transplant is "reasonably" easy for someone that knows what they're doing.

Ratbox will be able to provide you with all the necessary listing that go on with your conversion, including the correct attire to wear whilst converting your car. He is in strict accordance to OH & S standard........ :)

I think that term may mean to him----Occasional Heavy Smoker or Transform the Old Holden Shitter..

Looks like the free 253 motor will cost you a fortune.. .
To put a V8 in MILDFB we grafted a whole front end on. As everone has said, you need some knowhow, or know where to buy it... Good luck.
If in doubt..chop it.

Yeah, a bit. Winter is not conducive to working late. The car is at Phillip island, and I live at werribee, we have 3 sometimes 4 working one day a month however progress seems slow, back again end of the month. The body work is the most time consuming. We keep the web site up to date: www.mildfb.com

PS I think I saw your car at Bendigo. You have the grafted Commodore front end. We both know how much work is in that. Nice job by the way.

cheers, Graham

Try V6 conversions

http://www.v6conversions.com.au/

Or Castlemaine rod shop for the conversion parts for the V8

http://www.rodshop.com.au/

I was lucky my car came with all the conversion done from V6 conversions for the V8.
