Depends on which way you want to go with it, though personally I wouldn't put any badge near the flutes........it may look too "busy" in that area, if that makes any sense.
I'd be reluctant to put a bowtie anywhere on the outside of the car, as people may mistake the car for a Chev
, or worse still ( please don't take this the wrong way) as a wannabe Chev
.
At the end of the day it's your project and you should really do what you think is right. The only person you need to impress is yourself.

I'M not a big fan of flutes in any form except on cars that're suposed to have them GTS,GTR etc, what you have done looks good but they look to big for the area they are in i think if yor going to have them try reducing the size they seem to take up too much of that area
as for bowties i'm with a few of the others just because it has a chev motor doesn't make it a chev........when we were younger and even more smartarsed

By golly you've done some work since I last looked at your post...... very impressed.
Seems we may have to consider a "mega" or "ultra" modified section..... yours, Malcolm's and others are probably what the "modified" category best caters for.....
flutes..... I'm sorry, but they are not me.... although for "period" flutes - blokes used to fit the side pieces of Austin Freeway grilles into FE/FC/FB and EK's when I was a kid......
I love your gauge binnacle and cluster - you have put some work in here - I would expect you are going to "recess" the gauges to the depth of the main binnacle cluster...?
What did you weld the alloy with - looks MIG - I'm hoping for a TIG later this year, but know nothing of them as yet - a TAFE course is on the agenda at present......
Your panels - again, a lot of thought gone into these - and is shows in the finish - well done..
Rear deck - again - you've put some effort into this - the high mount light should wake up truckies who get too close (not that they will get the chance.....).
I fitted a strip of 30 super-bright LED's to my rear deck - they get people's attention - LED's come on a bit quicker than the incandescent globes of the brake lights - it's not much, but it does create a little "interest".....
Console - this is another hard one - I have fitted many "home" consoles over the years - and a few "stolen" ones..... nothing so far has given me any joy - I have just used part of a Volvo one for the tacho and fabricated a cluster for three other gauges I'd feel lost without.....
Yours is giving me incentive to have another crack at it..... future project pending......

Great to see you have Sue on board - my other half leaves every piece of my shed to me...... except copious deliveries of coffee and lunch once a day (if I'm lucky)......

As far as the Bowtie goes I think I will can it .... I posted it for comments because I was unsure myself and to quote Ratbox "just because it has a chev motor doesn't make it a chev", fair call and I agree 100%.
As for the alloy flutes I also put it up for comment due to my concerns with the size and "bulky" look, I do like them but I felt they needed to be trimmed down (I have taped it of with black tape - photo below, does it look better, have to squint and use your imagination abit
) and they are there for a reason and that is to stop the hot air getting trapped from the exhaust. I am also thinking of the side view when finished, I can picture it all black, low, all the chrome & polished flashline kit with the 2 polished 600 holleys & scoop sitting on top of the Wieand blower, that is when I "think" that the flutes will look like they belong there..................... my reason for changing from the HQ flutes is similar to Ratbox's quote, even though is has HQ GTS flutes, it doesn't make it a HQ GTS!, they are also common (not meant in a bad way, but I wanted something original but still functional.

Flutes look way better in the above pic, but they might look better I think if they followed the shape of the ridge in the lower portion of the guard. The lower flute looks to squared off...

Thanks Rosco!! Yes it was MIG welded, the alloy is 5083 Marine grade plate and 6061 T6 tube (very hard), I used the TIG to touchup imperfections while polishing. When it is going to be ground back and polished it is pointless using the TIG as it is a lot slower and puts in much more heat which increases the chances of distortion. I will be using the TIG to do the fuel tank, radiator coolant tank and a few other bits that will be polished but not sanded (leaving the welds visible). If you are going to do some aluminium welding get 5356 wire and pure Argon, this will give the best results. Also need to change you MIG liner to a yeflon one (preferably with a brass neck liner) and the tip must be an Alloy specific tip (they are slightly larger in the hole to stop the alloy wire grabbing).rosco wrote:

exceptional work as always...however, i have to say im not a fan of any flute configuration as of yet.... i understand that there, there to serve an actual purpose (for once), but it just looks to busy, a fulll side shot of the car might be good so we can see there full impact
personally i would have stuck with the monaro type one 'in the panel rather that sticking out' and maybe leave them black, i know thecar aint going to be subtle, but not everything needs to try and our do each other....just a thought...

I think maybe you need to start paying attention to overkill.
As for the fibreglassing stuff, t-shirt material also works, you essentially need a fabric with stretch in all directions.
