“9,000 genuine documented miles since factory”
The EK’s Time line
1961 - Sold by Vern Potts Holden - Rose Bay to a local resident who purchased the EK for his wife as a present.
1975 hardly driven with $5,900 Miles, the car was Purchased Vern Pots Holden after the Lady enquired for a new Battery. The Car had been sitting and wasn’t getting use since her husband had passed on.
Vern Potts had the car on display for a year.
1976 John Bowden of Pat Rowed Autos a Wholesaler at the time, purchased The EK, who sold the car to David Deal Wholesalers of Gow St Padstow. Two days later the car had it’s new home, Tom Fry of Tom Fry’s Suzuki Rockdale, Arncliffe and Sylvania. Here the car stayed for 11 years on display in various show rooms and also in storage.
1989 The EK was offered for sale by Tom Fry> A Daily Mirror article featured the car. Beverly Johnstone of “Rose Bay” was the new owner @ $12,500 (I missed this car by five minutes). At the time, it was the most paid for an EK or FB Holden!
1990 The car was on the market again, Beverly was seeking relief from the loan repayments. While on the Market the Cars originality was questioned buy some eager buyers. This entered the car into a long dispute between Beverly Johnstone and Tom Fry. (See Attached)
1991 Maureen and Michael Sullivan were the new owners of the Rose, with 6,343 miles on the clock it went to Kembla Grange. There the car stayed for 17 years. In that time the car gained an extra 2,652 taking the car to 8,994 miles.
2008 The Jacksons acquired the Rose for their Daughter Victoria Rose where the car has done another 100 miles.
Authentication of the Rose
1990 Saw the cars originality tested by Beverly Johnson and the integrity of the past owner for 11 years Tom Fry questioned.
1991 Jan Statutory Declarations were supplied by the Following motoring industry and well standing people in the community:
Vern Potts (GMH Dealer Rose bay) : “The Vehicle Smelt Brand New and was original in every way”
John Bowden (Pat Rowden Auto’s Padstow): “The Vehicle was in original and Immaculate condition travelled a genuine 5,900 miles”
David Deal (David Deal Wholesalers): “Original and Immaculate Condition” “We believe this car was Genuine” “We also believe it can be substantiated”
Laurie Sutton (Suttons Holden) “It is an original example of those built in 1961” “I would have no hesitation to buy that car to keep in the company collection” “It is the best example of an EK Holden I have seen for many years”
Kevin Matthews (Commander Eastern Suburbs District Highway Patrol). “I have known Tom Fry for 15 years” “This vehicle was in as new condition with about 3,000 or 5,000 miles showing on the speedometer”
“Everything on/about the vehicle coincided with this reading”
Pat Murfit (Pat Murfit Smash Repairs) “I spent my apprenticeship with G.M.H. Vehicles including the Holden EK” “Firstly the Holden is one hundred 100% original” “The Front and Rear screens have not been removed and have the original glue that I used in those days still there” “I spent the best part of an hour inspecting the vehicle , the interior is original and as new” “ Mrs Johnstone said that two people came out to buy the EK for themselves” “They said the globes in the headlights weren't original and other comments of similar stability, obviously trying to detract from the vehicle for their own gain”
Greg Robinson (Auto Auctions) “ I consider myself an expert when assessing the condition of a motor vehicle. The car was original in every way, mats, seats, trim, hoodlining etc. When you opened the door it had that new car smell still, obviously a very valuable collectors item with approximately 6,000 miles on the speedometer”
Bruce Metham (Vehicle Wholesaler) “ In my professional opinion this car was in “As New” condition and five thousand nine hundred miles totally original” “ I have been employed in the motor trade for eighteen years, always having a keen interest in Classic Cars. I believe Mr Fry’s Holden EK Sedan was possibly the Best exaple available anywhere in Australia”
John Hine (Lic Motor Dealer / Repairer) “This car was in immaculate condition and in my opinion original condition with very low mileage” “The vehicle to my knowledge never had any restoration or similar work carried out on it.
Allan Cornish (MTA - Motor Traders association of NSW)
A. Engine:- “a close examination of all gasket fittings and manifolds show no signs of dismantling having taken place”
B. Drive Line: – “Automatic transmission gasket area shows no sign of dismantling”
C. Lighting System: – “All Bulbs and lenses are intact with genuine markings upon them”
D. Interior: - “All Trim sections are in original condition and there does not appear to be any changes”
E. Speedo: There are no signes of tampering in this area as all screws relating to the removal and replacement of the unit have no reverse pressure marks which would indicate that the instrument assembly would have been removed.
Conclusion: I believe that the vehicle has not had any genuine or non-genuine components replaced relating to the body panels, electrical equipment and mechanical components. The repairs which have been carried out to the body are consistent with the workmanship done in the 1960s and early 1970s. The areas of paint repair have been done is such a way that they are consistent with the original finish. It is only the passing of time that has exposed the repairs. I would also add that the vehicles today, as was in 1960’s and before , manufactured had minor repairs performed before being displayed for sale. They are also considered by many people to be in original condition at the time of Purchase. [/u]
