thanks for the comments. With another 3 pans to go and a lot of other rust spots things have fallen into a routine...cut, weld, grind...cut, weld, grind...
John - it's really handy having the screwdriver welded there...I've never lost it...it's just a bit difficult to use though..
RB - with the rate of knots you work at you'll be finished before we get to the 4th pan. No chassis kit...the sqaure tube you can see under the floor is a part of the trolley that ties the front and back wheels together.
another floor pan goes in...this time the rear pasenger side...with a nice added bonus of the underfloor bracing also requiring attention...this was done March/April this year...cut, weld, grind...
OK well we're still cutting, welding and grinding away...this happened from May to September 08...(yeah i know it's slow going)....drivers side bottom of A pillar, inner sill and floor plan...
What we were faced with...
cutting out...
blasting doesn't get all the nasties...
this is roughly about where I started to freak...and said to Loui..."You sure you can put this thing back together again...?"
I unpicked all the spot welds from a donor section...
Am proud to say I even fired up the mig and made this adjustable trolley for the front subframe so it could be wheeled into place...
the subframe was bolted back on so we could line up the Y frames to the inner sill...
welding inner sill back into place...
lookin good...
Another top job by Loui with the pan ready for welding in...
Loui's doing a great job there Stewart. bet your glad to have him on board.
"Hey"! how good is it to have a clean slate to work off. Makes for a easier job to work with, when everything is so clean.
thanks for the comments and feedback guys. I am stoked by Loui's workmanship - the skill and patience is all his. A couple of times I've said to him "that'll do" and his reply has been "no its being done properly..."
If others need rust repairs...I can ask him...that's after the EK is finished of course...
BB - no holes but I'm keeping some rust sections hanging up on the garage wall as reminders...
and another great resto which didn't go belly up and off to the crusher.
I'm thinkin loui must be blewin with his missus..?
Putting a lot of effort into this it makes me think he's gettin more out of this than you - and we know that won't happen..
keep him fokused and don't let him drift from the quality - might have to grease his palm a bit more if he starts to lose the purpose..
I'd say the fact that it was Stewart's Grandads car ,actually finding it again after being long lost and the memorys it has was all the inspiration that he needed to see this one through.
I guess that part of Louies reward is seeing the big smile on Stewart's face .
