67 Impala build

The EK has been shelved for a while till I finish the Impala. It was sandblasted, panel beated and painted in 4 weeks flat. With a bit of luck I should have all the front panels back on it this weekend and off the rego by the end of next week.
During the resto I built a mild 350 for it, had the powerglide recoed and replaced just about every bit of rubber on the car.
I'm the 3rd owner and it was sold new by the local GMH dealer. A mate of mine bought it in 1975 and he finally caved in 26 years later and sold it to me.

I started with this....

Then off the the blaster and panel shop

4 weeks later it was ready to go home

I had the bumper rechromed and polished the stainless etc

Bolted in the new 350

And had a go at stainless repairs (before)

After. It aint perfect...but it's good enough for now.

Here's a bonus. I'm the 3rd owner of the car and I asked the 2nd owner if he could remember the original owners name. The second owner, now a good friend of 20 years, purchased the car in August 1975 from "a photographer" in Canberra and gave me what he thought was his last name.
I just did a bit of research on the net and bingo....I just spoke to the 1st owners wife who remembers the car fondly. She is going to get her husband to call me later when he's available.
A great result considering he bought the car 41 years ago.

Gday GT
I had a 67 pillarless Impala as a teenager, great car, fun times 8)
327 powerglide, red with a white vinyl roof,
dragways with big mickey thompsons on the back.
So big, I had to pump up the air shocks to stop the car sitting on the tyres.

You've done well with the quick rebuild, great work, have fun with it 8)

they must've been BIG thommo or were they just dished wrong cause you can put a huge wheel tyre on them without rubbing

i had a kool weekend away once in a '67 impala, (hey stanley :wink: ) wagga nationals years ago, 6 people sper of the moment no accomadation off we went, big weekend not alot of sleep, i drove home with everybody else out to it asleep and stanley (who owned the car) every now and then stirring to a drowsy yor not thrashing it are you :?: noo :oops: speedo sitting on 120MPH foot flat to the floor so maybe more :shock: 8) 8) :lol:

I still have a soft spot for my old '67 Impala, even after someone flogging the crap out it :shock:
I had 15x10 wheels with 295 tyres under mine & it was ultra low (chassis scraping & sump replacing low) with no tyre rubbing.

It is still floating arond Brisbane somewhere. Orchid metallic (crimson met.) colour with some other type of wheels now. Saw it at the 1st Nostalgia drags at Willowbank a few years back & it still looked good, even the paint which was done in '89/'90.

Keep the photos rolling of this one as it goes.

When I spoke to the guy that bought it new he said the only trouble he ever had was on a trip to Melbourne in 1971. He hit a low level crossing a bit quick, got air, and crashed to the ground. He heard a strange "kachoooooonka" noise and found a chunk missing from the bellhousing. Well......37 years later, guess what :lol:
