Original steering or rack for V8

Post by Malcolm »

Hey guys,

Has anyone ever used or is it possible to use standard type steering box in an EK when fitting a Chev V8.

Just wondering if its possible to get away without using a rack setup.

Not if you want extractors to go down the side, I would still doubt it if you used normal manifolds, Trev 8) .

i knew a bloke that had an EH van with a steering box and small block, it was a while ago can't remember what pipes it had but i do know the steering box was moved over which affected the steering (wasn't very good) he bought it from WA so someone from there may know it, it was quite a few years ago

I tried to when I had my first EK in 82, there is no way you can do it.
The chev oil pump and pick up is in the sump at the rear of the engine, and does not allow for any clearance for a drag link.

Slightly off topic but does anyone know if v6's or nissan 6's can fit with the original steering in place?

I saw a EH sedan at Dapto with RB3o turbo insitu, had original steering box, but rose jointed steering linkages, the owner maybe lurking on the forum somewhere and could come forward, with some photos.
