Queensland replacement engine size

Hi all,

Does anyone know the legal engine replacement size allowed in an FB sedan in Queensland?????????

If its done properly then you can run up to 350 V8. you will need new brakes, chassis kit, collapsible steering and so on ...

Just need to comply with the engineers requirements.

Not 100 % sure but I remember reading on one of the forums,here in N.S.W that 310 ci is the maximum. This limits you here to a 307 or 308 Holden if this is correct.Some formula they use which includes original vehicle weight,braking etc compared to engine capacity??

It's all diferent from state to state and engineer to engineer.

So the best bet is to get an RTA compliant engineer who will give you the advice you want, do what he says, get the state RTA compliant engineer's certification,and then get rego in your state.

You are correct Sunny Tim - go to the top of the class.

RTA was meant to be a generic term for a state motor registration authority. eg : Qld Tpt, RTA, DIER, MVR, Vic Roads, etc ...

Obviously one would consult the state compliant engineer for the state in which they live.

get on your states rta website and they have a section where u can ask technical questions they will email u back ,that way it is official i did this when asking about how low my fb can go

Qld says you can only put a 307 chev in your FB. Like thats the biggest you can go. (In an EK you can go a 327 chev)

but you have to do various things to get an engineer to even look at it

Brake master cylidner (dual circuit)

HR disc brake front end
Rear window dimister
Front and Rear retractable lap sash seat belts
2 Speed windscreen wipers

sorry just trying to rattle these off the top of my head'

The little water squirters on the bonnet that squirt water onto the windscreen

NSW is the same as QLD by the sound of things,

More mods include,

Front windscreen demister
Rear vision mirror drivers side
Collapsable steering column
Indicators on the front side of car
Diff needs to suit power of engine/gearbox
Brakes definately Hr minimum dual circuit
Chassis kit this includes subframe and wishbone strengthening (on mine anyway).

All in all a big job!

Wonder why in QLD they only allow a 307 in an FB when they allow a 327 in an EK???........esentially the same cars bodywise???

It might be something to do with a weight formula on the car's maximum recognised weight.

EK's could weigh more if they had the hydromatic gearbox which wasn't available in the FB.

Dudes,
The RTA has amended its light vehicle modification rules. Bad news for some still ok for others just!
Any vehicle that weighs 1100 kgs or less can have by calculation (original weight x .183= 201cubic inch or less).
Any vehicle that weighs over 1100 kgs or more can have by calculation (original weight x .294= 323cubic or more).
Obviously the more your car weighs the bigger the engine by calculation.
The EK weight by the RTA records is 1120kgs so we can fit by calculation 1120x.294=329 cubic inch,327 chev is closest or smaller.
So if you have a vehicle that weighs less than 1100 kgs you are in trouble .
Im not sure what FJs or FCs or even Toranas weigh but my guess is they ars lighter than the EK, does anyone know?
If you are building anything it would be advisable to engage an engineer asap and get some records down just incase the RTA changes any more rules.
