Wheel track is measured at the centre of the tyre tread on original fitment factory rims at factory standard ride height.

Can't find my workshop manual for HR to give you spring length specs for HR 'cos the handbrakes gone and put it somewhere and I don't know where :?:

Will interrogate her when she gets home and give you the figures later.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

At least buying new you will ensure that you get the right offsets so rubbing won't be an issue (provided they get it right). My old LJ torana ran 13x7 rims on the rear thanks to correct offset no rubbing even after lowering. The tyre place worked out the offset and Dragway made to suit.

if you contact dragway from past experiance i'm sure he'll set you on the right track, they are dear but he is very helpfull and after doing it for so long should know exactly what to sell you
THOMMO's wheels i think are 13's but you won't buy them cheap if at all as they are old wheels refurbished :(

Thank you once again people,

I do appreciate this help - I have never been in a position where I could spend money on frivolous things like wheels.
I really can't justify the expense now but have always wanted to fit these wheels to my car and I am currently in a slightly better position than I have been.
Probably won't get them all in one hit, maybe not even two - but do hope to fit the full set before next year's nationals - or the one after.

Terry, thank you for your help - I'm sure your "handbrake" has saved you from losing many things over the years. If you are like me, it seems I have spent half the spare time in my life putting things in a safe place - the other half trying to find them again.
My partner has leaned to sit and watch as I turf everything upside down looking through all my "safe" places - heaven forbid I ever try to hide anything - all conceivable "hides" have been revealed many years ago.

When senility starts to creep in, I suppose just leaving things in open view will be "hide" enough - guess we do things as we seem fit?

I will take my car to a wheel/tyre specialist and tell them exactly what I intend to fit - they can do the "Maffs" for me - just in case something was fitted to the suspension which will only show up if the wheel fitting proves incorrect.

Devilrod, I am very comforted to learn that you had fitted 7"s to your Torana - I vaguely remember them to have the same calipers as the HR disc front end and there was little "space" for fitting dished wheels to the rear. I now feel 6"s are not a big ask - just need to know if going out to 14" is going to cause any issue - my car is not lowered - and I have no intention of doing so - guess that comes with being different.
I feel that new wheels are my best option - I love shiny metal on cars and care for it lovingly. If I buy new on the recommendation of the supplier, I will have the safety net of exchange if there is a problem.

I do not have any confidence in ebay - and certainly won't commit substantial money to something I neither can lay hands on to inspect nor return if unsuitable.
I have witnessed many dis-satisfied purchasers who have unfortunately had no right of return - some even when the item did not conform to the advertisement. Seems vendors can "disappear" when it suits.
This electronic cyber-trading post probably serves many well, but I work too darned hard for my money to throw it at something I can't walk up to and discuss one on one.

I should be able to pick up a like sized wheel for a spare - I don't feel 400 plus dollars sitting in the boot can be justified.
Will a HQ standard wheel fit my HR stud pattern?

I will probably have to do something about changing the tub in the boot for a spare wheel...... later - has anyone done this?

Ratbox, yes I will get in touch with dragway - surely they have fitted these for other FB/EK's - it will serve to back up what the wheel/tyre people say.
If there is a difference between them - I'll put one argument against the other and hopefully this will resolve any issue before they are ordered.

Yes, I vaguely remember Thommo telling us that he had his wheels re-done - they do look great, I can't remember who the original manufacturer was - I don't think it was Dragway?

Thankyou again everyone - sorry if I left someone off.

As far as a spare goes, ht/g steel rim will fit. HQ's are different.
14's will be fine as I had 14x5.5 dragways on my FC (HR frontend) and my ek runs 14's and they only just rub but mine is very low.... 8)

14's

Post by Dee »

Thank you once again people.

Thommo - I love those wheels - it has been some time since I have seen them and couldn't remember the exact style - thanks for the pic - bet they are no longer available?
I'm pretty sure I still prefer dragways, but if there's a big difference in cost - I'm in - love your wheels too - so cool - and another question - are your centres alloy?

DR - yes, I remembered last night that the HQ pattern was out - thanks for reminding me of the HK/T/G - I am of the opinion volvo wheels will also fit - but think they are only available in 15"?
Suppose it would be a big ask for you to remember what offset you used on your FC? I don't know if you chose 14 x 5.5 for legal reasons - I am thinking you had the FC some time back - kids now put 17"s on older vehicles - we were restricted back in the old days - I would have fitted sports wheels back then too - if I'd had some money... have had to put up with factory standard up until around now..
I vaguely remember us being allowed to go up by one inch and out by two inches - that would give the size you had on your FC...?

Will telephone a systems engineer and my insurance company this week to avoid issues with either engineering or cover.

Looking forward to going "shopping" this week - will post what I find - just in case someone else is watching my thread.

I feel there may be a number of "styles" of dragways - I am only interested in the fully polished number - hadn't considered 5.5" wide - just thought they'd supply full numbers?

Any opinion on preference for 5.5" or 6" - maximum tyre width will be 205's. - don't know if they will "walk" on 5.5" rims.

Have had a peek at the website - http://www.dragway.com.au/s_6.asp

The style I would like is listed as 5 spoke - funny that...

The Offset chart is a reckoner and is at - http://premiersites.net.au/users/15165/ ... 0Chart.pdf

I have left a message at the website address and hopefully will have something to report early this week.

thankyou once again everyone,

Dee

They have been unavaliable for a llllllloooonnnnngggg time.
and yes, they are an alloy center bolted to a steel rim.

Wasn't my doing on the FC, it had 5.5's front and 7 on back from memory.
Gazrat has it now maybe ask him.

As for volvo rims they do come in a 14 but the offset may not be right.
