i've come across an old mag can't find a date on it, it's a wheels publication called holden handyman it's No 1 there's an EJ on the cover so i spose this sort of dates it around '62 '63
one thing in particular about buying a second hand holden, times when i've come across cars that seem to have old original paint only to find another colour underneath, apparently it was fairly common place for a car yard to respray a second hand car to suit you, say you want a red one and the yard only has green ones, well they'de just get one resprayed for you
when i figure out how to post some of it i will
very kool mag
Respray what ever colour you want....
... Now that really was customer service. I wander if the price remained the same and...... if it did.... just how good was the respray.
Warranty on the car . But not the paint job.... Oh and dont park it in the rain. The colours will run and fade.
The good old days!!

Holden .. australian car for australian conditions.....partyin', drinkin' ,cruisin' and rootin'
no such paint back then
wanna make a bet.
Are you suggesting that shonky paint jobs from car yards are only a recent initiative
enamel paints ( not 2 pack) was around back then. If the prep job on the surface to be sprayed was crap , not rubbed back or primed then the paint would fall off . It hung on for a few weeks and then started peeling /flaking off... sorry no warranty.
I grew up through the 60s, 70s and 80s. I use to hang around a panel/paint shop that done a lot of car yard work. The beaters and painters could put out some great work but..... could also do a job down to a price.... If ya wanted to pay less... you got less quality.

Wasnt being nasty just stating what i seen go on back then.
Earliest recollection of metflake paint jobs i have was 1970/71 when Norton bought out heavy flake paint jobs on Norton commando motorcycle fuel tanks and side covers.
Purples, blues , reds and lime greens with very heavy flakes.
I can remember a lot of t bucket rods etc getting around back in 1974 ( Narrandera and Port Macquarie rod runs) with metal flake paint jobs.
The yanks where probably using it at least 10 years earlier than that.
I think pearls came along after that. Can remember reading mags back then where people boasted "15 coats of clear"... no mention of pearl.
