fitting of front suspension bump stops
fitting of front suspension bump stops
i was wondering if any one had an easy way to fit the front suspension rubber bump stops.i pressed the bottom one in using a socket & a G-clamp.it went in with a bit of a struggle.i tried to do the same with the top but due to a different angle it won't go in.i supported the middle of the car ,compressed the spring ,using a tolley jack ,with the rubber aligned with the housing.the problem was i couldn't get it square in the housing .any ideas would be much appreciated.i hope i don't have to remove the swing arms.
They are difficult to get in and as Thommo has said, they are easiest to fit when twisted in.
I just give the bump stop a good spray with WD 40 and also the fitting flange in the control arm. They go in easy then.
Twist it as if you were squeezing the juice out of half an orange on a juicer.
Some may cringe at the thought of WD 40 on rubber components but it's not exactly soaking in the stuff and it doesn't seem to swell or damage the bump stops at all.

I can't think what to write here so this will do.
