New Toy - EK

Post by Malcolm »

:) :D

Well today we went for a drive to Brisvagis and found this cute little pet in the street. I said to Carol,
isn't she cute, can we keep her. :) :) :)

So, this is it, the newest member of the family.
I know I did say, "last car, no more" after doing the FB, and Carol also saying "no more",
but when I saw the price and I mentioned long term, and, that I would do her gardens
before I started on it, she crumbled  .

Seems as how the yellow car didn't quite turn out the way it was intended (daily driver, shopping car,
work car ect)we decided to have another go and try to get it right this time.
We got this car for $850, the body is average to good condition and the damage is just about all bolt on stuff.
Upon closer inspection it will probably need outer sills, rear floorpans and the front sill corners rebuilt.
I think I was a bit spoilt with the FB as the body on it was in great condition. This one came with the
old side plate motor and hydro box, but neither will be getting used.

Plans for this one is oldschoolish:
Stockish body EK, standard colour, standard wheels (thumb print wheel trims) white walls,
cruiser skirts and stockish interior with bench seat.
The only request from Carol is for it to have FB side moulds (so it can be two tone)
 another vintage
air/con unit  and a taxi rail . A/C, yeh, taxi rail umm, FB side moulds, what the f*%k

I said, "that will be great, we have an FB that looks like an EK and now you want an EK to look like an FB".
Try and figure that out. (must be a female thing)

Other things will include central locking, security system and maybe full length front door windows.

Engine:
Mild 186, 12 port head, something different as far a carby configuration goes and a 5 speed Celica box.

Suspension:
HR front end (disc) rear end Volvo maybe (disc) and low.

Complete strip, sandblast and rebuild over a few years this time. As now we have a car to take to the
next nationals.

Will keep updating with photos on progress with this one as I did with the FB, but maybe I will go into a bit
more detail on things like the chassis kit fabrication as far a measurements and angles go,
so it may make it easier for others to do rather than spending big dollars on bought items.

Anyway let the fun begin again, o yeh, after a bit of gardening.

Cheers

Hey Nomad,

Its currently got the old grey sitting in it. It did have a red and trimatic but when the owner smashed it he took all the running gear out to put in another car

Still interested to know if the 13's fit the Volvo.

Cheers

Glad to see this car saved Malcom, looked to be a cared for car before the flesh wounds. Will be interested to see what you come up with.

Post by rosco »

I bet if this one knew what it's predecessor enjoyed by sharing the same stable Malcolm........... it'd be dropping panels on its own in anticipation...........

great pick up - and we are all very much relieved to learn we have another project to watch you work through - sanity, my dear friend is retained by this..........I am very happy to learn Carol is behind the "plan" - and yes, you seem to be able to show the General - some features are best fitted to both...............

very much looking forward to this build - Malcolm, Carol and the W's jnr's.......

Traveling in tandem for Bendigo.......?

starting to prattle, must be tired........... talk to everyone tomorrow night....

frats,
Rosco

ps - could a "roo do this much damage......................?

Hey DR

I wasn't planning on any more but being an ebay watcher I couldn't resist having a look when it came up and being cheap enough and close.

It may be a while before I start anything with it though. (I have to say that incase Carol has a read of this post)

Looks like a sideswipe, then off the road into a pole/tree. Being on the right hand side, I'd say a truck has merged into him and knocked it off the road at around 40km/h or so.

Miss Piggy, looks more like a 45km/h job, probably on a slightly wet road.

Malcolm you got the one that was at Kallangur :D :D . I was going to take a look but haven't finished my first car. Hope it works out well.

Jay,

How funny is that, when I was thinking of doing the FB red everyone said don't do it red everyone paints them red
So how many red ones were at Yamba :?

Sammy,
I was looking at those HEI units I think there called as far as spark goes.

Miss Piggy,
The car was a hire car   (I would have been disappointed hiring this thing) The previous owner told us that his wife was driving it and she called her husband and told him that the brakes were a problem, so he tells her to drive it to the mechanics   So at the top of the hill from the mechanics the brakes fail  :x so the only way to stop it was to ditch it into the trees. Some people make me wonder.

VS355,
This one is going to take some time to do. I don't know if its because I just want to cruise along with the build (no pressure)
Or the fact that I don't want to build 2 cars in the same time some are taking to build 1
