I own a couple of sets of these.
What is the real story?
One plausible story goes these were issued on the very first release FB's that were not supplied with "Indicators" from factory. Indicators were a factory option in some states in early 1960 (this is fact). It has been said these were fitted to early FB's pre Magic Mirror acrylic paint and only in some states. (In WA it was law to have the rear vision mirror OUTSIDE the car around this time)
Another opinion has these orange stop light lenses as "Export" lenses supplied on vehicles being shipped off shore to South Africa - Fiji etc. (orange to meet country laws of the day)
What's correct? I don't know! and nobody has ever shown any real proof as to what and why they exist in this orange/amber colour.
I would like the real story also (with proof) also happy to hear any variations of the tale of the amber taillights.
Regards, Smooth

Nick, blue ute wrote:I was led to believe the white lens were reversing lights up the early FB.
The later FB-Ek used the orange lens for the indicators (no white lens by law), as well as the indicators (flashing) the orange lens was also the optional reversing lights (solid)
Cheers Nick
Mate, we are actually talking about the large RED stop/taillight lenses that were produced in amber/orange. Not the orange indicator and or clear reverse light lenses. It's them big round buggers at the bottom!

They were made amber not faded. Rare items that pop up from time to time.

Ratbox,
We will have to catch up some day.
Nitro = Nitrocellulose Paint "Pre Magic Mirror Acrylic" as I mentioned above.
Blacky,
Forbes hey great! Are they planning on putting the judging categories back? You know like Van - Station Sedan (wagon) - Ute, you know those other body styles that aren't sedans.
This year was the first Nationals I have missed in 10 years.

Hey smooth if you want those catagories to be judged why not get on the organising committee and put your 2 bobs worth in at club level?
The way I see it if the trophies are for fb's or ek's, no mention of sedans ute's etc! If people want to shorten there odd's of getting a trophy I think there in it for the wrong reason, just my opinion (probably because I havent got a car worthy of a trophy?)

Hi Smooth,
Not sure what you mean about the trophies not being part of the event? Judging Day was Sunday and the trophies were awarded at the organised Sunday night dinner.
As to categories for Forbes I'm sure the NSW Club will give full thought...we're still enjoying the buzz from Albury...
Regards
Stewart

Stewart,
Categories that "normally" exist like Top Ute, Top Van, Top Wagon apparently were not part of the 2006 nationals. They were not listed on the entry form and in the results posted here on this forum apparently they were not awarded.
I ask the question as to why they were not part of the trophy line up this year when they had been part of the line up for the last 9 years?
Are they going to be part of the 2007 nationals? that is all I'm asking.
Regards, Smooth

Trev...thats not needed. Is there a straight answer that can be given?
Smooth...As I'm from NSW and had nothing to do with the trophy categories I can't help you on why Top Ute, Top Van, Top Wagon weren't on the list.
As for Forbes I'm sure NSW will give it full thought.
and as for this thread lets stick to red and amber stop lights otherwise I'll put the handbrake on it and lock it.
