now rember im ruff as but for the life of me i couldnt find
what oil to put in my steering box. the book said the amount
but not the grade.so i made up some crazy paste of diff oil
and moly grease what do you think. it was kinda liquid-ish
(not sure if a real word but a )and then topped it off with diff oil
oh the box is a hr one and i looked in the hk/t/g book and
it said grease the gear section. what do you guys/gals think
will it be ok. too late tho as its done now

Hello my painted friend your mix would be ok my book recons 9 fluid ounces of steering box grease for the initial fill and top up with 90 or 140 w gear oil

Yep, agree with Craig.The slurry ( grease/oil ) mix you've made will do the job or the 140 grade oil.You could even use the 240/250 grade oil if you wanted to.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

Hi Mez,
I chased down some replacement oil/grease for my box - the best - or closest I could get was from Penrite
it's called (just a minute, have to into the logbook - brb)

here's the entry

9/5/06 500 ml Penrite steering box lube #VFSB00005 8.69
– Penrite, 88 Lewis Road Wantirna South.
