This should help.. If you have a tacho it will be even easier to figure out.

My EK (Grey, Hydra and 3.36) travels at 110kph for an indicated 55 on speedo.

Yes Ratbox,
carnav just makes life so much easier - but not foolproof - I've managed to get mine "lost" three times now - they just go a bit quiet for awhile - then spring back to life.............. as if nothing had happened whilst they were away.......... I know people like that, more front than Myers.....

Had to learn to ignore them when instructions tell you to drive over cliff....... wonder if anyone has yet............? or through "no road" sign at dead end....?

speed indicated is just about spot on - I trust them over the standard GPS - don't know why there's a difference, but carnav is much more accurate.....

yeah strog, i did read that post a while back but sort of was left without answer as its telling me the revs at which speed ,,,and im a dunce,,,i couldnt do the sums to work out the differance it makes to the original speed on the dash

so if some one has a same ratio set up what i need is the speed in miles for 60k,,,80k,,,,,100k,,, or i will have to get my missus to chase me down the road in cranberry

whats a tomtom rb?? yes i live in the country
i assume its a tracking device

and strog if youve been doing110 @55 man ive been going 60 with a 3.08   and been naughty

but i didntnt do it, dolly did,,officer
when they start building them like that again i will buy a new car of them

Karsten, modern technology.......... but this one is going to help, big time......

If you can find a couple of hundred coupons plus maybe just a few more, get yourself a car navigator - brand names are Tom Tom, Garmin, Navman and oodles of others............ they used to be quite expensive, but now prices have more than halved and they're still on the way down.......

Remember I sent you that site for "wheris.com". this is much the same thing only in a portable unit........... you can punch in an address anywhere in Oz and press "Go" it will then not only tell you how to get there, but will give you the distance, time it takes, street names, where to turn and depending on what you are prepared to spend, may even talk to you instead of you looking at it............. the bit we're talking about is that it will very accurately show you your speed - you can set it up for Km/h or MPH - most come out of the factory in Km/h.......................

I'd be lost without mine now (no pun intended)

speeds

Post by rosco »

Hi Karsten,
until you get your car nav.............

these are not exact, but should be within just one or two mph.
Our speedos seem to become less accurate as speed increases........

I am quoting speeds from your hydro box after changing from 3:89 to 3:08 diff centre.
If you have a Traumatic, you can get a replacement drive gear which is matched to the diff centre ratio.......I don't know if this is possible with a hydro.......... I do not have any experience with auto's......

the following are from my chart - and state speed in km/h when your speedo is showing the miles per hour indicated
24 mph will be 50 km/h
29 mph will be 60 km/h
36 mph will be 75 km/h
39 mph will be 80 km/h
46 mph will be 90 km/h
51 mph will be 100 km/h
56 mph will be 110 km/h

again, these won't be exact - they can vary a bit depending on tyres and wear/tear on the magnets/speedo hub of your gauge.........if you stay just under them, you should not attract any attention from the constabulary or candid camera shows......

i bought my tom tom more for the reason you are chasing here acurate speed
i'm like you live rural and it's not overly accurate as far as alot of roads just aren't listed, and have had it trying to tell me ways to go that i know are not the best way
i do really like when i'm back in sydney and going somewhere i've never been, it's just like going to an old freinds house just drive straight there like you've done it 100 times before
i think for a few hundred dollars they're quite handy

no other pics (pre digital camera) there is a larger version in my thread starting again again
that car started as a shooting buggy but had no rust only real probs it had was a hole in the roof for the spot light and a hit in the right front guard, i just did the red motor, auto, disc front thing, this one was super low had cut down mounts for the front end about 1,1/2", cut springs about 2" and drop stubs 3" so front lowered about 6-6,1/2" had all white interior, flat blach paint with the silver flames
my proudest acheivement with that car was a picture of it in an american mag super chevy that was taken at the summernats so it wasn't like the were hard up for things to take pics of

Hey Rosco just curious with what you mean by standard GPS as opposed to carnav? In my line of work these things are both brilliant and frustrating all in one. We now run two units at work to sub 50mm accuracy and have a hand held unit capable of 5-10m accuracy (top end hiking one). The handheld is a garmin and is bloody good for speed check.
The others well we use them for everything from large empty paddocks to suburban streets.

Some things people don't realize with GPS is there are times in the day when the satellite coverage is poor for GPS recievers (bad satellite geometry which changes on a daily basis, shifting forward by around 15-30mins each day), which may explain the attempts to kill you Rosco. Large buildings and trees can play havock with the reception too, resulting in odd readings. Which is a pain when trying to locate existing features :? ...

But as far as the carnav ones from the little contact I've had you will get irregularities but the accuracy of these things in general are good enough for getting in and around cities etc.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.
