Brake boosters

Post by Blacky »

Took the EK up for rego today , got knocked back because it doesnt have a booster fitted. It is running HZ front brakes and VR Commode rears with a VR master cylinder.
Anyone got any ideas for a booster that will fit without moving bonnet hinges etc ? I have heard that TD Gemini or 180B Datsun ones will fit . I dont have time to buggerise around with it as it has to be licenced by Friday to go on the truck Monday for the Nationals.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Im not 100% sure on how it would suit your setup, but you could possibly go for a remote booster? something like VH40? atleast with a remote booster you could put it wherever you may like.

Possibly go and have a chat to your local brake place, im sure they will help you out. 8)

Torque , the problem with remote boosters is that they are only single circuit . I am running 4 wheel discs which require dual circuit boosting which means I would have to run dual remote boosters which is a plumbing nightmare .

Blacky,
I am running a TD gemini booster with a &*#@ XB master cylinder.
I am also using a HK firewall bracket to allow for the offset of the pedal. If you are running an auto you could use the clutch pedal push rod and bend the pedal towards the accelerator so you get clearance from the bonnet hinges.
Lots of work though any way you go. You also need a brake warning light if you havent already got one.

Brake Booster

Post by NoMAD »

Yeah i've been told the 7" Gemini booster with the XB Master, but i havent done it yet, theres also a 7" double booster available from most parts shops (dont know about out your way) but i'm sure theres going to be some mod's required to fit!

I've been told the 7" ones fit the FB/EK bonnet hinges - anyone want to confirm that.

Cheers

Does it really need one? I know of 2 cars that have been engineered without them, one an EK with a small block chev, disc/drum setup and the other a HK Monaro, all they did was lengthen the brake pedal for less pedal effort. Passed the brake test efortlessly, even the engineer was impressed.

I might add that I think the touring cars run unboosted brakes too, so whats the problem? Did they say why, did they test it?
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

The car was approved and registered in NSW without a booster , when I took it up for rego here they reckon the pedal pressure is too high and that it must be fitted with a booster. Theres no point arguing with them , it will just make life harder in the future as I will have to go to the same place to register any of my other cars.
I have scored a Gemini booster and an XB master cylinder , all I have to do now is make it all work - will post pics as I go. It will all have to wait until after the nationals now as we fly out to Melbourne on saturday. :D
