Coloured engine bays

Post by fb4655 »

 Can someone please help!!!!!!
I am currently renovating my FB Wagon back to original, I would like to paint the engine bay the same colour as the car, I know this is not original, but would it distract points or what ever at a show (not national level)? The rest of the car is going back to original as possible.
Also, the can someone give a rough idea of what the engine number should be, my car body number is 4655, the same as the postcode where I live...Hervey Bay.
Thanks 8)

Welcome to the forum Dan. If your car was up against other totaly stock Fb's im sure the color of the engine bay would play a part in judging of the car, especially if your up against serious trophy hunters the finest detail will be looked at. Personally I couldn't care less what people do to there cars as long as they drive them, Im not into trailer queens.
If you are restoring your car back to original why do you want the engine bay to be the only part of the car thats not original? Trev.
Any photo's Dan?

hi fb4655
As far as I know the engine bay varied from factory to factory, Adelaide had body colour firewall to the body seam & black skirts where as Melbourne was all black & Sydney was the body colour - but I will stand corrected.
Same with the engine colour, seems every factory used a varying shade of grey (depended what colours were left over at end of the day) but the official grey was Dulux 393 10367.

If you can, check the paint behind the body ID plate that may give you a clue - unless previous owner did a complete restore & removed/replaced the plate - but doubt it
Cheers Nick
