car cut up for couch

Post by fat62ek »

hi guys i just thought id tell you all this one make sure your sitting down. well ive been hunting for an fb-ek wagon and finnally found a couple in sydney so i went to have a look and well yeh they need alot of work but i can get the 2 of them for $1000 one complete the other a shell floors are gone but arnt they all .he said he has to get what theyd be worth in parts. heres where it gets interesting .upon looking around i found a sedan sitting at the back of the shed. i said how much for that he says its sold .ok i thought . then in conversation he tells me that the sedan was being cut up for some looser to make into a couch. this sedan was untill yesterday still regod had a very good body a very small amount of rust. guards were already off as was motor.man it was one of the better eks ive seen being wrecked (they didnt waste any time stripping it). aparently some old guy just traded it in on another ek and this one was being scrapped now. i told him id buy just the shell then to try and save it but sorry mate we sell cars for wrecking thats what we do we dont like to sell full cars coz we cant make any money on them.he said the rear end was going for $450 and if i wanted the shell id have to put into perspective that if the rear end was $450 then the front would be about the same ($900 for a bare shell um sorry ). im thinking well theres a few around that could be made into couches but why one in such good nik to start with.it turned me off buying from him a bit but i guess what people do after theyve bought them is there buisness. bloody shame though.

I'm currently making a fibreglass mould to make these lounges because i see to regulary this happening. This way you'll be able to make single, double, what ever width you like.

Unfortunately the old car scene has changed since the advent of ebay, the price of scrap and the amount of "vultures" out there mixed in with an amount of wannabes and wouldbes if they couldbes but hey with the price of fuel who knows what the near future holds, maybe the value will fall on it's arse, i just could'nt bring myself to sell the van i'll find a nice park and live in it???

Well I'll put my hand up for cutting up a car  , but in my defence it helped get the non-rusty sections I needed. The car was far from safe for road use, after we stripped it down we found that the whole front subframe was so badly rusted not to mention the floors, doors and rear quarters I kind of felt justified in my actions. I could never do it to a mint body, as it is the rear section I did keep for a couch will be a work of fibreglass, bog and some steel!
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

Fat62ek,
The car at Riverstone that had the rear cut I saw today. Yes the rear was gone and I got the b pillars and drivers dog leg.I was going to take the sill but they were rusted in a couple of spots. Im not sure if it was an auto but it appeared the floor was modified in the tunnel area. The floors were covered so I couldnt see them but going by the sills I reckon the floors were rusty as well. It does break your heart to see such carnage but sometimes we have turn a blind eye cause we cant own everything! ( The wife just wont let me). The wagons looked complete did you buy them?

Opal Green EK at Riverstone

Post by Lucy Blue »

fat62Ek the green EK at Riverstone was mine, I had quotes on the repairs needed to the body and they were in the region of $10000 like many women Katie looked good on the outside but was rotten at the core

Rust in the floors and insde of the sills a big dent in the rear beaver panel requiring a cut and shut and very bad rust in the LHF windscreen pillarand both sides of the plenum chamber

I drove it there on friday and started to strip it, the reason you could not purchase it was that I was comming back on wednesday to finish the job. :)

This car was in the TV series Fat Pizza it was the car the Bobo's dad got laid and later killed in. :P

I purchsed from John a Dusk Plum EK that had been in a shed since 1981 the front guards were shot so the ones of the green car went with it along with the king pins and brakes and various other pieces

I did not end up using the brakes from the green car and if anyone is interested in 4 drums and 8 shoes let me know.

The Dusk Plum EK is at Holton Spares at Dee Why and is slowly being readied for rego.

The engine is not an original it has an L prefix but has been fully recoed all I have to do is fit the alloy timing gear

It has new king pins and new brakes but I intend to have it resprayed before registration

EK283 the car that was cut up for the lounge was a white EK from QLD that was modified to have a HEMI in thats why it was strengthened underneath.

Oh an BTW I am 41 I don't consider that to be old

More on the green EK

Post by jjt119 »

I am also one that hates to see certain cars get cut up no matter what their condition but I bought the rear end off that green EK. Not for a couch but for the boot floor and a piece around the lower screen. At a glance the car looked pretty good and I wondered why it was there but under the surface it was full of glass, bog and plenty of rust. I didn't know its name was Katie but now a piece (a few pieces actually) of Katie will live on and has added many good years to a suffering FB.

the interior in my curent EK is out of the one at rivo that had the hemi in it, i hate scrap dealers they don't seem to have any idea what old cars and parts are worth, one offered a mate of mine $40 for a HR that he already had sold for $1500 the scrap dealer couldn't beleive it, and since i moved to where i live now (country NSW) thinking i'd get on to plenty i've heard nothing but horror stories about scrapers

i hate scrappers! there is one living in the house behind me, he had 2 ek utes on his truck, one was covered in dust but all orignal, not a mark on it, the other one was parts ute only, i made him an offer well over what he would have got in scrap and he laughed at me as he droped a volvo on top of them  we didnt see eye to eye before that but now! grrrr

Smooths Photgraphs

Post by Lucy Blue »

Smooth, thanks for that I was going to post mine but can only find one photo and I have to scan it as I don’t have a digital camera (I am an unemployed baby boomer who is ineligible for Government assistance of any sort) who can’t find permanent work within his trade, who says there is as skills shortage! I can’t find any permanent work out of my trade either

I also don’t have a full right kneecap courtesy of a NASCO gearlever lock

It was a nice but long day

I can remember that the Blonde Girl appeared to have tickets on herself

I was talking to a fellow there and she comes up to us and says “Oh you are talking about my acting performance”
To which I replied, “no we are talking about electric arc welding”

What a dirty look I got

I hindsight perhaps I should have kept Katie as the new car project is progressing very slowly.
