Hi Rowan the HR front end is perfect for a chev if it has been correctly modified for the job, firstly the main cross section has to be cut and welded to fit the sump in, secondly rack and pinion steering is usually fitted to the front of the front end and HQ discs also fitted.
I have also thought about this modifiction and asked a few people with V8's and was told to buy one from castlemian rod shop because they come with an engineers certificate. Saves on time but might cost you more than you would have budgeted!

trevs pretty much right on the money.
the front end needs the following mods
moved engine mounts
cut down crossmember to clear sump
strengthened outrigger
ek outrigger (well fb-ej)
outrigged cut open for rack
and rack mounts welded on
theres a fair bit there, but as trev said its most easiest doing a changeover, where you just get them a bare hr crossmember, and they give you a already modified one in return.
also you dont have to run hq discs, you can run late model &*#@ (which hopperstoppers sell a conversion for), hr discs, torana discs etc
the bonus is though if you run a 9" diff, and the hopperstoppers &*#@ big brake upgrade, you retain &*#@ pattern all round.

ROWAN,
CHECK OUT THE PHOTOS I HAVE POSTED IN MY FB/EK HEADING CHEV EK. SHOWS ALMOST WHAT EVERYBODY HAS MENTIONED WITH THE HR FRONT END.
I HAVE USED H/D STANDARD HEIGHT SPRINGS WITH HZ STUB AXLES. THEY ARE ONE INCH LOWER BECAUSE OF THE RADIAL TUNED SUSPENSION HOLDEN USED AND HOPEFULLY WILL MAINTAIN A NICE RIDE. REGARDS GREG EK283

Rowan ,, there is a bloke in northern N.S.W. called Pat Gardner who does these conversions as well , my V6 EK has one of his kits in it , and having owned both the CRS kit and the V6 Conversions kit , the V6 Conversions kit drives nicer . Just my $0.02 worth.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.
