So i have been having a small issue with the wheel alignment on the Torana front end and although its not that bad its been a thorn in my side since i have finished and been driving around.
What the issue is, the offset bushes i have in the lower control arms to do wheel alignments get knocked out and needs continual adjustments to keep the tyres from wearing out.
Today I took delivery of some custom upper control arms that are adjustable via rose joint adapters. This will let me align the caster / camber and lock it in on a more permanent basis.
It will also allow me to use rubber bushes on the bottom arms that will help dampen road noise. All i have to do is drop the front end out and do the replacement, argggghhh, not an easy task.

Pretty cool. Wonder if they do them for HR. Do you really need to stop the whole crossmember out Greg? Not that I know anything about traanas.

Not 100% happy with the quality, i am fussy though, just little bits like welds and slight alignment diiferences between the 2 arms, they will adjust out but i have OCD !!!!

So after doing 6000 kilometers i thought its time to sort out some stuff im not happy with, mainly the wheel alignment and the way its adjusted.
I had a custom set of adjustable arms made up with rod ends and two way adjusters to get the camber and caster right, I will put rubber back into the bottom arms and get rid of the offset poly bushes. Just too hard to keep everything aligned and lucky i checked because one of the bolts holding the arms in was broken !!!
Whilst Im at it im going to remove the sump and replace the high volume oil pump, theres a bit of brass in the oil and i suspect the cam is wearing the shim behind the cam gear, notorious with HV pumps. The extra pressure on the distributor gear forces the cam back and loads up on the shim. A new torrington roller bearing has been ordered to fix this issue, and ive seen these before with the chevs. A new standard volume and pressure oil pump will go back in. Anyhow a few days work ahead of me, probably more.
Its quite dirty underneath now, but i have driven in the rain and on dirt roads, will have to scrub it as well.

Cool man. You’ve got me wondering if I could get customised upper arms made up for the HR front ends. Strictly off-road use only of course. Where they exy Gregor?

Progressing well made up some brackets that utilises the sway bar mounting position.
A bar and a couple of supports to the heads and the engine can now stay put while I dropped the front out. I had a bit of luck and the subframes swings down without fouling anything.
I've replaced the timing chain thrust bearing with a torrington roller and im putting in a standard oil pump cause my bearing clearances are at optimum gap. More work this weekend.

Clever mate. Some kooky Torana dhit going on there. Now you can drop the engine out with the pipes on if you wanted to?

That is what I have seen people do with the LC LJs. They assemble the motor to the k frame, then drop the body on top.
