Left Balranald about 7:45, nowhere near as cold as Cooma the day before ImageImage

Into Mildura and had breakfast at the Holden museum

Didn’t go inside as we were on a mission to get to Whyalla and we had a more important appointment in Mildura- a visit to me old mate Quinny

Spent a pleasant couple of hours with him then we were on our way to Renmark for lunch

Got jack of the thing jumping out of gear so bought a genuine NASCO gearstick holder innerer- works perfectly ImageImage
Image

Express freighted it to Whyalla , found out today that SA is the roadworks capital of Australia- every 20km of road has around 10km of roadworks, why they can’t just do one bit at a time is beyond me ImageImageImageImageImage
Drove through the dark from Port Augusta to Whyalla and thankfully didn’t see a single roo either alive or dead Image
Image

Parked up at the pub and had a couple of pints of Pirate Life - thank fark we didn’t have to drink this mullock -

That last stretch used to be notorious for Roos at night and overheating our old clunkers during the day. Massive effort mate.

When I lived in Kalgoorlie I did lots of bush driving and hit at a guess a roo a month - personal best/worst was 5 in one night 😳 put a pair of shu Roos on and didn’t hit one for 18 months, the second one fell off and within a month I hit another one……

For a less than $10 spend I reckon they are worth it

$5.95 at the Neranderra ripco. Fancy chrome ones.

At least they are actually fixing the roads up in SA now. What speed were you doing again mick, when the cants didn’t let you off?

There is a second hand shop there that is just nuts , so much crap in there it’s unbelievable…….
Image
Image
There’s about 12 rooms like this plus all the yard etc - we went through it a few years back and bought some stuff but didn’t buy a thing this time
Then off to Port Lincoln -

Had a quick one at the Pier and bought some supplies at Coles then off to Coffin Bay

Today was a rainy start so kicked back until it stopped around 11 then headed off to look at a couple of local attractions- another junk shop , was full of vintage comics and albums and all the usual crap - holy shit this guy has a problem ImageImage
Image

Image

Had an old Willys there as well
Image
Image

Then we headed up to Farm Beach for a look at another place that was shut down- ended up getting flagged down by a local and we went to his place for a cuppa and some tomato jam on toast ImageImage
He told us about a tractor yard not far from his place so off we went
Image
Image
Image

This one was my favourite for obvious reasons ImageImageImage
Image

Then off to the pun in the scrub as the Coffin Bay Hotel is known - it’s a long way out of town , kinda baffling why you would build it there but we all know South Australians are all mad ….
The 1970’s called, they want their decor back ImageImageImage
Image
Image

Then off for dinner at the Oyster HQ which we really enjoyed last time we were here - but not so much this time.
The boss was happy as we ordered 6 oysters for entree but they gave us 12 by mistake
Image

The main was a disappointment, we ordered grilled fish and got battered and overcooked to buggery plus the calamari was dry and horrible Image
Walked back along the foreshore and got treated to a dolphin show
Image
Image
Image
Image
When is a seagull not a seagull ???

Off to Streaky Bay tomorrow

I suppose you’ve seen the museum at Koppio.

Last time I drove that way was in my blue ute on the way over last year. Bought fresh baked bread on the side of the road at Coulton, just north of Elliston. Bloody lovely drive. Only boring bit is Port Kenny to Streaky.

That’s a black-backed gull (aka assault seagull in military fatigues) :)

Cheers,
