Hi guys
Will be getting my HR front end cleaned up and ready very shortly and am hoping someone with the same set-up could measure the position of the engine mounts on the crossmember for me.
The front end has come out of my EH ute which was set up with a 179 red.
In the EK the HR front will be running a 186 and Celica 5spd.
I just need to confirm the exact measurements of where the mounts should be positioned for placement of this set-up in an EK. I'm hoping it'll be the same as the EH and we won't have to move anything, but no doubt that would be just too convenient to be true.
Cheers, Scott
Need measurements for position of engine mounts
Hi Scott,
in around 1982 I went to Rare's when they were in Brunswick, Vic.
They showed me the difference in engine mount position between EH and FB/EK - ours are just a little further to the rear..............
Can't give you specifics - can measure what they did with mine if need be....

Hey Scott, I run 186 and 5 speed in my Van, Come over and measure them up. I have seen a few red conversions over the years. Those that use the mounts where they are for the HR seem to have radiator clearence problems. My motor and box were installed without the mounts welded in and we located them where it gave enough clearance from the radiator and firewall. Tac welded in and remove motor to fully weld. Easy when you have the tools!
I had someone else do it for me.
I'll try to get some measurements for you.
Cheers Theo Z...............

Okay Scott, The front of my mount seems to be 3 1/2 inches from the front of the cross member and the back of the mount seems to be just hanging over the rear of the cross member by 1/4 inch.
Hope this helps.

Further to my last post,
going to cause some confusion here - I believe there are two different sizes in engine mount posts - engineers prefer the larger - some demand it.
Mine is the smaller mount post - the rear of this post at it's inner edge is almost parallel or flush with the rear of the crossmember top.
Have taken two happy pix - hope these help a bit (please excuse dirty state of components - not cleaned after recent run)

Not happy with last night's pix - didn't really show the position of the mount posts.
Here's tonight's edition............
left post

right post

position of fan to radiator

position of head rear to firewall

hope this gives you a clearer indication..............
You will notice that I drilled a small hole at the base of the post for drainage..............

Guys, as always a great deal of help.
Rosco...pictures were great. I'll sit down with the guy who's helping with this side of things and study them properly. Didn't know about the 2 different size posts. Will contact the engineer and ask what he wants to see.
Theo...will take you up on the offer to come check out your set-up. Nothing like seeing it in person to help cement it in my mind. The HR front end I'm using has had the mounts re-positioned to suit EH already (came out of my old ute) which is why I wasn't sure if they'd need to be moved again, or if by some crazy chance the EHs and EKs require mounts in exactly the same position. Couldn't be that lucky huh??
Will let you know when I get some free time and see if we can organise a look-see.
Thanks again guys...much appreciated. With your answers plus an in-person viewing of Theos set-up, should be a breeze.
Cheers, Scott
