Clay maybe we should line up a time for us all to have a beer or 3!

Harv thanks for the info, that tube straightener looks like a good bit of kit. Ill look into sourcing these tools for the job ahead.

Brett the flares that were leaking, were they a double flare?

The tightarse tube straightener is made using a couple of bits of SHS and 5 sliding door wheels from Bunnings

Or, you could feed some MIG wire through the old fuel pipe, cut off a narrow strip of Scotchbrite, twist the wire around the Scotchbrite to secure it, and pull it back through the fuel pipe.

Or, you could block one end with Blu-Tac, and pour rust converter into the pipe and let sit for a while.

If it's any consolation, my FC needed frequent cleaning of the needle and seat, and unblocking of the main jet, for about the first ten thousand miles after I got it back on the road.

That's some good ideas.

I thought the same when I got the tube in straight lengths from the brake shop. Cheaper source had it in rolls which were easier to transport, but hard to get really straight.

Hey Drew
I have bending tools your welcome to borrow. My flaring tool is only a single flare and I think you need a double flaring tool.
Stephen
Geez thanks mate! If appreciate that but I can’t help but think the tube bending tool would be a pretty basic little bit of kit?

Can you post a pic of it somewhere?

I might be able to whip something up on the machines rather than get you to send it to me.

I’ll PM you.

Hi Drew
Bend tool does 1/4”, 5/16” & 3/8” also have bending springs too.

It was part of a flaring kit. Kit is just ok but bender is a beauty.

Good day today. Replaced front seal yesterday and tapped on new modern style balancer. Left it overnight to make sure silicon around seal was cured and tried it this morning. No leaks😀.
Distributor has been bothering me - it was too close to sidecover (you can see in previous photo some way back) so popped it out and moved it a tooth. Much better now with vacuum advance facing forward and full range of adjustment available. Static timing only, but it purrs like a kitten now. Also rechecked rockers using bolts on balancer and a bar to turn motor over. Big advantage of new balancer, those bolt holes.
I can't turn motor effectively with fan - it's just too tight.
One happy camper, in lockdown.
