A bit of new work. Sprayed stone chip underbody goop on front this morning. No colour painting for me today. Just not hot enough yet.
Finished brakes and steering knuckle install on passenger side. Still got to fasten brake flexible hoses with copper washes to all slaves, this afternoons job.
Visited Dave yesterday and saw what a great job he is doing on Orange Betty. He's undertaking some highly skilful metal forming work, and doing a very thorough job on his rust repairs. Looking forward to the time when we can do a bit of cruising
Nice one Brett! Great to see you but I was looking forward to a Wilma and Betty cruise in the future (waaay future). Is the ute to be named Barney by chance?
Yes Clay, I have been enjoying looking at the inners- found myself staring at the finish this afternoon
Dave, not sure about a name for Project 2 yet, but currently I'm thinking colour: a deep dark shiny metallic red (Mazda do a nice one) with chrome wheels. Got the wheels waiting. Upholstery is already done in black and silver so that would work.
This morning over coffee, Kate suggested that I need to build a shed for the cars- something I wasn't expecting. Maybe I am hanging on to Wilma, and Betty and Wilma will cruise in a year or so when your done. We'll see.
He he. Yes you're right Rob, I will see if it comes up again unprompted. I am not sure I need to have multiple classic cars in my life. I think I'd rather just have the practical and also classic EK ute to play with and use. I dont think I want to be doing up cars permanently either. Just a couple done up to get a sense of achievement and take the edge off retireing and then when it's done, one to keep. Mind you, I keep looking at the Yellow rust bucket ute and think this could be fun. We'll see......

Help. Trying to get my head around the best sequence of activity reassembling the gear hanging on the firewall. Do wiper shafts and linkage arms go in first? Can the plenum air grill be put on after the wiper arm and shafts are attached to the firewall? Brake pedal box before or after steering column?
Do firewall insulation and panels go on before everything else? Demister vents and heater etc etc. Just trying to minimise wear and tear on shiny bits and do it right, once.. Reckon people here have done this many times.
Clay has just gone through this so no doubt he will chime in , but I would go air vent , wiper arms, firewall pad, demister/heater , pedal box , , steering column
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Firewall insulation first, then pedal set; but don't clip the firewall insulation into place until the pedals are in. Master cylinder pushrods go in only after the pedal set is installed in place. Then I'd be inclined to put the wiper linkages and vent in.
Speedo cable, then the wiring harness, which is best connected to the dash first. Feed the engine bay part of the harness through the hole in the firewall.
The steering column goes in just about last of all, but is a lot easier before the motor and gearbox go in.
The plenum vent and wipers can be installed after but I wouldn’t. Pedal box before column but I didn’t take mine out anyway. Handbrake rod can’t go in until insulation is in. I put my column in before insulation so I could steer but mainly because I wanted the engine in. Definitely do it before that if you can. As to wiring yes well ahem...

Managed to splash a couple of base coats of colour on the roof today.
Firewall and behind dash now finished, with the roof requiring a sanding and a few tidy ups and two or more coats when the next warm day arrives. 1litre of paint/ thinners (1:1.6) used for these 2 coats on the roof.
Well Clay, I splashed a bit more on.
This time playing around with dash. Not overly happy with matt finish and the grey colour; perfect for an EH but not Wilma. Going to add a bit of gloss black tomorrow and see if I can get a little bit of shine and a richer colour. More black would contrast better with the yellow than this grey. Still got some sanding and another coat or two of yellow to do on the rest of dash and then a buff.
Looks lighter than the factory clinker grey. Did mine in that, satin. Almost black. Engine bay and dash all done in one and I believe that’s how they did the Melbourne cars which mine is. Then I went all custom on the column. Yours is an Adelaide body? I do like the body colour firewall which I will do on the van. Keep at it. You’re making progress. This weather is very encouraging.
