Re: WA fb special
Spray it around the inlet manifold faces with the engine idling, and underneath as well. You'll know instantly when you find the leak.
It wouldn't hurt to slide a piece of sheet metal between the hot box of the inlet manifold and the headers, just to confirm that the inlet is not fouling on the headers. A hissing sound means a big air leak . . .

Re: WA fb special
Some how turns out when you split the early red manifolds the long 100mm bolt that is removed needs a bolt back in it's place and somehow open through into the intake. It was sucking max air through the bolt hole.
I didn't take the intake manifold back off to see under there but squeezed my hand in and up with a bolt and the issue is gone.

Lightbulb moment - Of course. The stud is right in the middle of the centre inlet manifold runner.
Re: WA fb special
a test fit on another red motor pic and few goodies seemed to have arrived just in time for when i get home. Still waiting on under dash though postage is heavily delayed.

Re: WA fb special
Hi guys, test fitting up air con parts today and trying to work out heater inlet and outlet on the red motor.
Some have heater hose from the water pump and drivers side thermostat and some have two outlets on the passengers both thermostat housing.
Id like to run the heater lines on the passengers side to be neater to the aircon / heater but can't see how they work with a flow in and out it seems it would just dead head.
Do red motor heads differ for thermostat outlets. Last pic seems and extra outlet

Re: WA fb special
Jeez heating and cooling mph. Mod cons mate. Heads were revised (HR on?) together with the cast outlet lower housing to heat the alloy inlet manifold you have plugged. Should flow with correct head. What is the casting number? You can run the heater in series with the manifold if you want better cold start behaviour but hoses may be a bit convoluted. Otherwise drill water pump and brass takeoff where temp sender is can still be run passenger side of car by as per later red and blue from factory.

Yes mate trying a few luxuries and demister, the nanna crochet blankets ain't cutting it
plus its my dd currently.
Im not sure on the head number will find it tomorrow, its a high comp head not sure other than that.
The first two pics are my motor second two pics are off the net .last one also mine.
I just noticed on the 3rd pic there is 4 bolt holes, but only 3 bolts for the bigger style thermostat, bottom left hole looks to be a small water entry into the bottom heater hoses out let ,just going of internet pics?
Does this hole drill into another part of a water jacket with water flow different from that of the main thermostat, as i can't see two heater lines from the same flow direction working. You need water flow in and water flow return out of the heater core
I'm not to bothered with cold starts , I'll be going a holley efi after the ac is complete , was just trying to see if heater lines can stay on passenger's side like the white engine bay pic I found on the net.

Re: WA fb special
Upper driver side hole is a water passage. From memory this is the difference whith the later heads which provides flow.
A lot of people advocate spacing the lower housing away from the block for some reason and sonicinjection have the spacers. I forget why, other than easier to get top hose on.

I think the spacer is just to make it easier to get the rocker cover on and off

That’s it glen. Knew there was a reason. Should have ordered one with my flanges. Save on shipping, but then they only charged $8.95 which is small satchel price, no mark up.

Re: WA fb special
Your cylinder head will probably be a 7420109 (EH/HD 149) if it's a high-compression head. The EH/HD 179 heads are 7420081. HR 186 heads are 7429461, KTG 186 heads are 7437395, and I can't remember what part numbers the 161 heads carry.

Re: WA fb special
Sorry, it is the bottom driver side hole that flows. Looks like your head doesn’t have this so as rob says 149HC head. Should have a H cast passenger side toward rear just outside the rocker cover gasket. The later lower housing with the cast outlets won’t work in this case.
