I managed to straighten the sill within a mm or so but hinge still sits low.Image
Even though the lower sill looks the same as the van, which I know is original, it measures 3mm narrower. Possibly I ground that much off it tidying things up but I am surprised. I think I’ve got factory intolerances adding up. Decided to weld on an extra 8mm of 1.6 mm to mount the hinge.

Off to mitre ten for some stubby self tappers and a decent bit. All my smaller ones are broken or baf.

One side is sitting proud 3mm. Might have to give it a twist. Fingers crossed the bog doesn’t crack.

And some, didn't realise the work the old girl needed. Was WAY out of my league.

Been a steep learning curve and I’m barely competent. I think its passion wots required. The rest comes with time. I’m going to need plenty of both for the longer term job of resurrecting the van. The ute is a perfect segue to the van being easier to get some fun happening while skilling up. I count myself lucky to have stumbled on this car, and the unbelievable tolerance of Elle, my wife, not to mention all the good advice from forum members and others.

Hi Clay, just a bit of forward planning for me but will a 185 radial fit inside the ute spare wheel space?

Yes I’m getting to that but I think the answer is dependant on how many psi it’s pumped up to......

Reason I ask is I was about to buy 185 80 13s for both sedan and ute but will only buy 4 185s for ute if they don't fit!

5hats good if you can get 80 series Brett. If you can get 175 be better on stock rims. 185 is perhaps overloading the 4 1/2” rim imho. More suited to a 6” rim.
I’ll see if I can find a 185 and try it. Stock tyres were 6.40 crossply which are about 165.
