Damn, I’ve seen some stuff knocked off before, but they must have been pretty keen to lift out a grey motor for scrap. Mongrels ☹️

Yeah was in his trailer so they took the lot - not sure if it was the trailer or motor they were after - scumbags for sure

Sounds like some awesome period upgrades in pipeline. Looking forward to see it all unfold.

The advantage of the EZPS is you dont see it - tucked up under the dash and doesnt need much power at all to give full power steering - Im adding an alternator anyway which looks almost identical to genni to keep the period look but give a more reliable source.

Lastly got my Harrop LSD centre last week to smooth out the rear end - 10 spline so should be an easy swap over in the original Banjo with same gear set

Never a dull moment hey !!Image

I have been looking at the electric power steering setups and they are quite simple to integrate provided you get the right one - the linkages for a column shift would certainly throw a rather large spanner in the works though ....
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Yes they look the goods Blacky - I spoke with these guys at length and they do a lot of special fits for some pretty high end Euro cars and have done column shifts before but never for Holden so it's a work in progress but they have several kits made for different joining methods as they basically cut the shaft and create a solid join to the motor so if for some reason the motor loses power you still have direct steering unlike a hydraulic system which both looks crap in the engine bay plus are prone to leaking and can be very expensive to keep running.

The idea is to create a kit from here if it works so anyone can call up and buy off the shelf - it's pretty affordable I think as a basic kit at only 1600$ and they may even offer the service of customers sending their column and they do the cutting and fitting.

As I said a work in progress but have high hopes as the steering is the main drawback (as I see it) to these cars being a very useable daily driver.

So pulled the genny today to see whats required to fit the powermaster unit - apart from being a bit bigger they are pretty close in set up - the one i bought has the added stud for idiot light - battery pole and earth is done through one of the rear casing bolts so no changes required for wiring.
The pulley sits a bit further forward so first step is i need cut the extension pole back about 10mm to get the correct pulley alignment then i can work out the back mount bracket but hoping just swinging it around and a washer or two will be all thats required - may need to put a step in the top adjuster bracket to get right offset but should be easy adjustment or make a new one ImageImageImageImageImageImage

Sorry Gpi but as Ive been advised these are a plug and play unit - PowerGen from powermaster - they have a built in regulator which sets them apart from most alternators and specifically made for vintage and veteran cars in 6 or 12volt so no additional wiring required - the only rider on that was the quality of the wiring present for instal and mine is brand new and slightly heavier that stock so it should handle it nicely - gives you about 65 amp at idle up to around 95amp at highway revs

In relation to the wiring guys, I did this in the 80s by comparing HJ and ek wiring diagrams. No biggie. Internal reg is quite common in the later blue and black six commies. I’ve only run them on the later motors mind you. Getting the right pulley and geometry is the key part here.

Its quite simple - just need connect battery to alt then bypass the regulator switching - im going to leave it all there for the look but dummy wires - some real electrickery

These units are a cross between alt and generator so they work in well with the simple systems on earlies
