Re: Surfing Safari
Those two piece boards are handy ‘cos you don’t need roof racks
That’s a cool wagon. A workmate has a similar vintage. It’s stock apart from being air bagged.
Cheers,
John

Re: Surfing Safari
Roof racks spoil the lines of a car but not as much as a snap spoils the lines of my favourite board.
Very nice bagged wagon. I’ll have to show Brett.

Re: Surfing Safari
Don’t get me wrong. It was nice cruising down in the Val but not as nice as it would be in a Holden. And we kept getting passed by corollas!

Re: Surfing Safari
My parents had one of those for YEARS ....... it was a weird one as it had the split grille front and the vertical taillights which seems to be very uncommon in these cars ??? nearly all you see are like the ones above.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Re: Surfing Safari
I had a Safari wagon when I lived in Sydney late 79 early 80 bought it off my brother for probably nothing as I had no money at all in those days (still don't ) it broke down one day and couldn't get it going, left on the side of the road really regret that.
Couple of really nice wagons there.

Re: Surfing Safari
There is a strong roof rack fad, with what I consider really crappy racks being sold for hundreds. My mate made his from scratch. He also made the safari scripts on front guards. The headlight surrounds are stainless pet food bowls cut and bent. Interior light is flat cut out Perspex sheet. Heater from a Nissan. He is a fitter with a background in scratch building and racing Suzuki’s in the back shed.
What really annoys me is when I see a crusty 80’s board on a nice humpy at a show.

Re: Surfing Safari
I needed to get the board off my mind do I can focus on the ute. It is polystyrene foam epoxy resin and glass fibre so I’ve started by gluing it back in its correct shape using 80ml of two pack epoxy. That will take a week to cure with some warmer weather coming on Sunday. Gives me time to do more important stuff before I start repairs to the stringer and glass job. That is where all the strength is.

Re: Surfing Safari
I’ve definitely given the board a little more kick in the nose. Maybe 1”. This could be handy on steep takeoffs but will make it push more water therefore harder to catch waves.
Rubbed back to 1200. Ready to go. No progress on the ute doh.
