Antenna to Radio Connection?

Post by srussell »

Dear all,

I have recently acquired a radio for my EK, however I have 3 questions and would appreciate it if somebody could assist or provide advice:

1) Can you still purchase antenna's similar to the original, if so where would be the best place to buy original looking antenna's?
2) Where is the exact location to put the hole in the passenger guard for the antenna?
3) Where to run the antenna-radio connection through the inner guard into the engine bay and through the fire wall into the cabin?

Essentially, where does the wiring from the antenna to radio go in vehicles fitted with original radios from new?

I would be grateful for any advice!

Quite a few cars have a hole directly from cabin through the plenum and cover panels, therefore the cable is wholly contained within the car. Others mount in the corner of the guard top where it abuts the bonnet corner. In this case I’m pretty sure the cable goes directly through the top of the inner guard to under dash with a grommet.ImageImagePicture speaks a thousand words as they say.

This is very helpful information, I think I'll go with the top of the guard option. I noticed that I can run it through a wire click hole in the engine bay and next to the other wires. As you mentioned, its looks pretty easy to run it through one of the grommets on the firewall to enter the cabin.

However, is there a brand/type of antenna that can be purchased which resembles the an original one or were the antenna's used in the past rather random it type and appearance?

Shane, that thieving bastard greedybitz on Ebay has a repro style red tip aerial -

or you can go to Autopro or whatever and buy one almost the same and bung a red or blue tip in it like these ones -

I started with nothing and still have most of it left.
