your lucky matty you found someone that started so quick to do your car mine sat at a local paint shop for to years and never got touched :x much to my upset so good to see there are a few genuine repairers that will still work on old cars i think some of them assume your poor cause you want to paint a old holden and not a bmw,
when they start building them like that again i will buy a new car of them

Hi Matty,
you are going to be the envy of many..................
It is refreshing to see someone who is prepared to commit a bit of time to having something done well............. I used to be guilty of not allowing enough of this, but for a reason - it was our family car (only one) up until 1991 and repairs usually accounted for sleep - couldn't have both.
Since picking up the little 1977 Corona (I am working almost non-stop since to get the EK up to the same standard) it has afforded much time to making the most of each little project.

This wagon of yours will be schmick - my greatest wish for you is to appreciate what effort, time and money has been committed and the irreplaceable cargo which will be placed in it ........... enjoy her forever Matty,
we sure will if you are determined to preserve her and the many occupants so privileged to accompany you.............

Great work by the look of what's going on - and thanks for your pix - keep them coming,

frats,
Rosco

Ahh matty, looking like the intial bumps have been overcome, and hopefully soon both matt black wagons in the club will have new colours.... (hint hint).

Good to see the progress, and looking forward to see the outcome. You know a few extra dollars getting the job done right the first time will save you a lot more money fixing it again, good to see your panel beater making an effort.

Who is doing the repairs (the body work)? and can you pm rodneys number?

Hey Matty, Got any more progress pic's? Looks to be quite staight forward with rust repair, My sedan was rust from front to back and it's just showing some out the sill's now, after about 7 years on the road. wish santa had brought me a nice new shed for xmas. The clour scheme you have chosen will look s#%t hot and smooth. Are you going to run twin carbs with headers and split system? What about wheels? Any ideas. Can you give a photoshop look. Mate its goina look killer.
Cheers Theo Z..................

back in action

Post by mattymartin »

hey guys

ok... i'm stil learning how to drive a new applemac it's still taken me a couple of days, but i'm starting to get my head around it...

anyways, i dropped in to see how joe was doing on the car, the day after i got back & as you'll see he's been busy.

i ended up getting that subframe off BrownBear, (thanks mate)... as it was in a lot better condition than mine... as you'll soon see!!!
Image
Image

this was my old subframe...
Image
Image
Image
Image

as you can see it was pretty bad & i'd rather be safe...

new subframe bolted up to car, (not welded yet)
Image

if only i could i could drive it around without front guards... sweeeeeeet

doors, tailgate & bonnet in primer...
Image
Image
i got so excited seeing these parts primed up...

floor has being plated & welded back together, 5 plates all up on the floor then sprayed with proof coat...
Image

JUST a few, rust repairs, the usual area's (apparently), around the door sill's, window rubbers, bottom of the guards beahind wheel arch's just to name a few... he cut out a HUUUUUGE section out of the back one, where the last guy that did some work on it did a bodgy job...
Image
Image
Image
around the rear window were a bit of a mess... to say the least!!!
Image

next rust area to be cut up is the rear section of the wagon floor... it looks bad...
Image

i'm off on monday to see how joe going & also see how my external moldings are going,(they are getting machine polished), i'll post some pics if i get them back...

i will also drop paint codes off to him on monday... no turning back then... hahahahahahaha....

hey i also ask him if he can put a fuel tank cap ver the opening like malcom's car... he thinks a gimini one might work. he's going out to look for some over the weekend...

thanks

I bet you are a lot "happier" with these results................
I notice a different approach to fitting the cross-member outrigger - looks as if the original HR has been used and an extension fitted to the sub-frame.

I take it that's "Joe" in the background of one of your pix.............?
