petrol tank cleaning fuel pick up

Post by Mick »

i have a really good fuel tank but it seems the pick up is blocked with something i've tried blowing it out and tried poking wire down it with no luck :(
my guess is it is something to do with today's great fuels :?  as when i owned the car a couple of years ago it was fine had an engine in it running, but it's been sitting about 2 years with about 2-3 litres of fuel in it (which i drained) and now is blocked
does anybody have any sujestions of something i could tip into the outlet or put in the tank to let it soak and hopefully dissolve what ever has sludged up the pickup

thanks

If it is fuel-based sludge, some thinners may dissolve it.
If it is water-based sludge, metho may dissolve it.
If it is dirt based, a (gentle) run through with a Kaarcher may clear it.

Pull the strainer off it and use a pull through ???
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

how do i get the strainer off? the tank is out luckilly i had another tank but would like to clean tis one as a spare or to sell as it's a very good tank

i'm guessing it's fuel based as i said i'de had the car running and driving a couple of years ago but with only a small amount of fuel in it (the fuel that was in it really stunk of being off)

Isn't the pick up only soldered in, can't remove it Mick?

Is it an FB/EK tank? I didn't think they had strainers in them, only the fuel pickup pipe soldered to the floor?
