Ek A pillar/sill

Post by makntracks »

Hi all,

New to the forum, have just taken delivery of my not so showroom condition ek.
First things is i'm wondering if any one has any pictures and info of how they have repaired the lower A pillar where the bolt goes through to the sub frame. mine is almost fully eaten away on the passenger side so i will be remaking it. i cannot seem to get hold of any doner parts as i'm in the Northern Territory and finding any thing up here is difficult. I was wondering if any one has made it before and has pics of it or even a drawing of the patch section.

I will get some pics tomorrow and post them up. I will no doubt need some more help shortly as i keep finding little hidden surprises under its skin. I've put in an order for most of the patch panels at rares spares so hopefully i can get into it soon.

Any help appreciated
Cheers
Mick

G'day Mick , welcome to the forum mate. Shame you didn't join a few weeks earlier , I have been to Darwin a couple of times in the last month - I could have swung past and had a squizz 8)
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Basically buy some similar gauge steel and start shaping it to look like the other side (provided it to isn't rusty). It's pretty much how we did mine. If I can find the pics I'll put them up.

Bottom of the A's definitely one of the more tricky areas. We had to do both sides of my EK...one side at a time. Make sure it is braced before you cut it out. I got some half decent sections from another EK. Devilrod's suggestion about making some sections up is also an option. As mentioned on your other thread we did all the pans and underside bracing first before tacking the bottom of the A's so the floor body was structurally sound.
