Dash light switch fault.

Post by EK Kustom »

I have a reoccurring problem with the headlight/lights switch in my EK that has only just started. My FB /EK headlight switch is blowing the inline fuse on top, could it just be a small water leak causing it to blow possibly from the plenum chamber or just failure due to age. The car has a painless wiring harness I installed about 5yrs back and up till now its been fault free. I have a $10 aftermarket headlight switch ready to go in but I'm hesitant to install it until I can figure out what is wrong. Any idea's guys and gals??.

Yeah even the FB headlight switch in my other custom is blowing the fuse on top now, tho it seems to be doing it since wiring up the 2nd hand dimmer switch. Infact the main headlight switch is getting really hot plus the wiring to the dimmer switch starts burning. Could it be the dimmer switch???. Or just the case that its cowl vent leaks.. causing it all to short out.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm completely out of my league here.

What wattage headlights are you running ?
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

I'm not sure, the sealed beams in my EK have been in it for a while so i'll check tomorrow. I'm planning to refit the original Lucas lenses back in with the removable globes so is there a limit as to the headlight amperage I can run with them. My alternator is a 35 amp unit.

As for my other sled it has sealed beam units in, could the headlight switches on top inline fuse burn out if I have two many accessories running of the same terminal.
