V8's the way to go mate
wanker????
I'd rather consider myself as an "owner operator"!!

It would be, but I've been offered a complete v6 commondore most likely free with a really good motor, I have the 186 and four speed auto as well so I'm really struggling with what way to go....
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.
You can't get an enjoyable sound out of the v6 ,its a shame because its all they lack ,and then dropping on a factory supercharger hmmm.
I've got a great vs sedan here that can't be registered ,it has a very healthy driveline but I'm sticking to using the injected black 6 in my fc because it sounds cool...
I think you should unveil that nitro black FB215 that you've got tucked away. Should be plenty of time it get it ready...after all, it only take a week to fully restore a car on American TV
The engine guy hasn't even finished the motor I dropped off in feb last year........I said I wasn't in a hurry but that's beyond a joke!
I know how you feel Tim. My trim still hasn't been finished and that was May last year. I got the headlining in good time though, so I'll just have to patient. Bugger it being in the States. Emails and phone calls just dont seem to speed things up!

DR I'd be sticking with the 186 and auto. Simplicity and reliability. V6s are a heck if an effort for something that has no soul (or note as Harko says). I can't see why you'd go to the trouble of a V6 you'd do a V8 (no offence intended to anyone but hey everyine gives me a hard time for having a stocko....)
Tim
If I went the v6 route there would be minimal to no exhaust note, semi sleeper if you get my drift. More than fast enough for a cruiser as for soul mines long gone.....
But the 186 and auto would be the easier option, but when do we ever do things the easy way? I've got a bit of planning to do and budgeting as I want to get the seats trimmed as well as all the repairs done that need doing. This rebuild should be the last one I need to do on the car for a very long time.
Harko not sure of the dates but they are always the weekend of he Queens Birthday holiday Monday.

even if the V6 is free there's still more cost involved in fitting one over a V8, my 2 bobs probly the 186 and 4 speed auto I'm pretty sure you've been happy with the 161 3 speed auto a mate has the 4 speed auto behind a red and raves about it he also has a V8 EK, I wonder how much fuel you would save with the 4 speed auto behind a red my shitter VP lost the lock up converter when the speedo stopped and jeez it used a heap of fuel just those extra couple hundred revs, but if you do go V6 yes not everybody has to have an exhaust that has to be heard streets away
sometimes yor just better off shitting in yor hands and clapping
Brett - you are probably stuck for expense which ever way you choose to go.
I can't remember what was in yours - but I am guessing it to be a grey.....
An engineer is going to be needed whatever way you go with either the 186, V6 or V8.... and probably just about the same amount of extra's involved.
I'm with Tim - V8 if you are in no rush.... a top order modded FB or EK just deserves an "8".... nothing sounds like one.... right down to the "square" idle they have.... they simply don't have to be wound out to sound great.... even docile passage through the auto trans with just a slight, quiet "note" speaks volumes.
These would be my preferred engine - sure, you lose clearances from both sides - but you gain 2 pots in length.
Exhaust is an issue - not many have made exceptional efforts with this... OldnEK (John, from Ulladulla) modded his out to a perfect installation - but I've seen some pretty ordinary cut and paste attempts to get those pipes out though the sub-frame walls - not to mention fitting spark plugs.....
Easy is the 186 and four speed auto - but, and I believe you can appreciate this - "reds" are becoming as difficult as "greys" - more produced, but it's probably only those of us who keep an extra (or two) because we know they won't be available forever - add to the acknowledgment of the declining numbers of greys - reds are probably tucked away in great numbers.
Which ever way you go - something will simply click and you'll make a decision - that's when the planning will start..... up until you make that decision - you probably will go through numerous changes of plan......
frats,
Rosco
Ps. great you are coming to Cowra - there'll be plenty of rides on offer - "going" is second place to entering - we've done this three times now - and come away with great memories..... and - no car to clean up and present....
Our old bus will finally be returning to the 'nats this year - and almost exactly as last entered at Yamba.... plus a few little electrical additions...
For all I post on spray painting - mine is still only half done.... rhs and front are original (with touch ups)..... and I thought retirement would afford oodles of spare time - it doesn't!
Just part of going to one - along with all the other great things which bring us back together year after year, Pauly...
It's often a huge surprise to meet up with those here on the forum - no-one ever turns out to be what you create in your mind... and, no - before you ask - I don't have blisters from typing so much..... but my mouth more than makes up for any speed lost on the keyboard.... you'll see (or hear...)
No Nationals for us this year.....bugger. Dave's not happy about it
We will be soaking up the sunshine in sunny Phuket.
We wish the NSW Club all the best with this year's Nationals and hope you all have safe trips there and back.
See you all in QLD
Cheers Karen
