Was driving the old girl on Friday and noticed that it sounded like the fan belt was slipping slightly. Drove her to Leederville and had dinner. Had a bit of a look and guessed that the bearing in the generator may be on the way out. On the way home, it was dark so had the lights on. Bit more noise coming from the front. Driving along Vincent Street, just about to go onto the Freeway north and she conked out - with burning rubber smoke!.
Had a look and it looks like the bearing collapsed altogether as the fins on the Generator were hard pressed up on the body.
Took the generator out this morning. Looking to get a replacement generator - decided not to go for an alternator conversion.
So - anyone know where to get a decent replacement? Should i steer clear of second hand ones and just go for a reconditioned one?
It will have either Bosch or Lucas stamped into the main body of the Genny - they are not a direct interchange so you need to get the right one. I have some cores here that you could reco - theres not much to them, new brushes and bearings/bushes then take it to an autosparky and have it tested
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.
