I know this has been spoken about before on here : But I went to get a price in Newcastle to get the front & rear bumpers rechromed $12oo.oo each thats a lot of money for a pensioner & I still have to get the tail lights ,bonnet bars & door handles done. Anyone know of a cheaper place that I can send them to.

Its cheaper to buy rares door handles than pay to chrome them, mine are fine...

Give Albury electroplating a call. I know its a drive from Sydney but they do post items.
I had every bit of my chrome work redone by them including stainless trim repairs and polishing, and zinc plating other parts. There wasn't much that wasn't done and it came in at a touch over 5K. It sounds expensive but when you strip down every shiny bit off these cars you'd be staggered at how much there is.
Their prices were quite good for individual items and their quality of work is excellent.

Ive got a mate in sth aus that I send my chrome to. The co.pany is called klemzig platers. He probably does me a deal but he wanted about $150 per section on a bar. $450 plus the overiders.
Even if he wanted $200 per section that still way less than $1200.

I've bought stuff off earlybitz1 before and found his descriptions, postage and timing to be quite professional. Prices are like anything - everyone has a view on what is reasonable, how badly they need something and hence what they are willing to pay.

I am dealing with earlybitz1 at the moment prices are about half and thats without supplying the base items I will fill you in as it go's they seem very helpfull at this stage just hope I don't get burnt, I will be glad when all this spending is over and I have something to show for it

I got my chrome today it will make my old HOLDEN new again .What more could you ask for ( new paint ,new chrome ,new old chev motor and a turbo 350 gear box)

I was talking to an old bloke the other day who worked in the plating business, he stopped in the street to me talk about my car. He mentioned that the die cast work is the most challenging, and that many plating mobs will be reluctant to give a guarantee in their work, due to the porous nature of the material . Bumpers, etc are no drama, however. Has anyone else had this experience with the die cast sections?

Yeah Bluehaze , the die cast stuff is the tricky bit , my bonnet budgie has a couple of little pinholes in it , the bloke who did the job said pretty much exactly the same thing about the porous nature of die cast ....

Yep I know what you mean. My plater referred to it as die cast cancer . I had the bonnet bar on my EK ute done and sure enough it had cancer. It can be treated but at a very high cost. Apparently the material to treat it is very costly. They do not know if your part has cancer until approx half the prep work is completed which is a bit late to source an alternative part to then discover that second part may have the same problem after more prep work is done.

I didn't go with the cancer treatment and my bonnet bar has a few small imperfections which I can live with as the other chrome is reasonable and the ute is not a a show pony.
